  3. Humble Beginnings: 2 • The founder and creator Pierre Omidyar • Company started in 1995 under prior name, AuctionWeb • The company did not charge, initially, for use of the site

  4. How EBay Started: Because the internet provider was going up on rates, owner had to charge EBay created to handle the amount of checks coming in from profits of auction buy-sells The official name, EBay, was created in 1997

  5. The Expansion: 5 • Headquartered in San Jose, California • Mainstream businesses started selling their products on EBay • Expanded to 30 additional countries • Ebay Motors and additional subsidiaries

  6. Business Created Because of Ebay: • EBay has famously spawned PayPal • Event Ticketing site: StubHub • Classified Ad site: Craigslist • Skype • Amazon and other auction–based and ecommerce sites were inspired from Ebay 3
