  1. Do-Now • Look at the science lab photo on your desk – fill in AT LEAST 15 things that are wrong with the photo on the corresponding number on the answer sheet. • You DO NOT have to go in order!

  2. Science Notebooks and Safety in the Science Classroom

  3. NOTEBOOK EXPECTATIONS • You must bring your notebook binder to class EVERY DAY! • Notebooks must be neat, organized, and well kept. • Periodic graded notebook checks will take place. • If you are absent write the day or days you were absent in the warm-up section following your last entry.

  12. SAFETY – RULE 1 • No food or drink in the classroom! • NO GUM!!!!

  13. SAFETY – RULE 2 • Do NOT wear baggy clothes, jewelry, or flip-flops in the lab!

  14. SAFETY – RULE 3 • Wear goggles, gloves, and any other safety attire that Ms. Kendra requests (anytime heat, chemicals, or glassware is used!). • If you complain = no lab!!

  15. To prevent “ruff” things from happening proper safety attire is required! MOCHA SAYS!

  16. SAFETY – RULE 4 • Stay in group or station. • No walking around the classroom!

  17. SAFETY – RULE 5 • Every group must cleanup lab fully. • If there is a spill, notify teacher before you cleanup. Before you clean me, ask your teacher!

  18. SAFETY – RULE 6 • NO JOKING AROUND!!!!

  19. SAFETY – RULE 7 • Do NOT smell, eat, or touch anything in the science lab!

  20. SAFETY – RULE 8 • In the case of a fire, notify teacher RIGHT AWAY!

  21. SAFETY – RULE 9 • If injured tell teacher IMMEDIATELY! • Locate eye wash and fire blanket.

  22. SAFETY – RULE 10 • Do not point test tubes or any other chemical at yourself or classmates.

  23. SAFETY – RULE 11 • When heating any chemical always use a holder over a flame. NEVER YOUR HANDS!

  24. SAFETY – RULE 12 • If equipment is not working do NOT try to fix. Tell teacher right away!

  25. SAFETY – RULE 13 • All long hair must be pulled back! • Long hair is dangerous around open flames and chemicals!

  26. SAFETY – RULE 14 • Wash hands thoroughly after EVERY lab!

  27. SAFETY – RULE 15 • DO NOT directly smell chemicals!

  28. SAFETY – RULE 16 • When handling animals, follow teacher’s instructions before doing anything!

  29. SAFETY – RULE 17 • Dispose of chemical waste by following teacher’s instructions. • Do not leave chemicals at desk!

  30. SAFETY – RULE 18 • If you have a question – ASK!!!

  31. Safety Contract 1. I will not misbehave in the laboratory or play with laboratory equipment or materials. 2. I will not engage in behavior that is disruptive or dangerous or that interferes with another student’s right to learn. 3. I will protect my eyes, face and hands while engaging in the lab activities by wearing safety goggles and, when needed, latex gloves or other protective gear. 4. I will work only at my assigned station at all times until notified by the teacher. 5. I will follow all written and oral instructions.

  32. Safety Contract 6. I will cooperate with others and do my best to ensure the safety of my classmates. 7. I will not carry out unassigned lab experiments without my teacher’s permission. 8. I will not eat, drink or taste anything in the laboratory. This includes food and drinks as well as chemicals. 9. I will wash my hands thoroughly after using chemicals and lab equipment. When using chemicals, I will not touch my mouth, lips or eyes until after I have washed my hands. 10. I will report any injury or accident to my teacher immediately.
