  2. STARTER 5 MINUTES Who ARE you? Answer these questions in your book. Write them without thinking too much What aspect of your personality would be in your work? Which colour best describes you? Are you a 2D personality or a 3D one? Are you a ‘what you see is what you get’ personality or do you have hidden depths?

  3. SO, I am a…………………. Creative, pink, 3 dimensional deep thinking person. Which teacher in the art department am I? (prize for 1st correct answer)

  4. CONTEMPORARY Consider the images on the following pages, and try to identify these artists as individuals. What can be said about the people in the images, from glancing at their self portraits. What could be said about the artist who created this art installation?

  14. CONTEMPORARY Artists identity Can we see any of the artists identity in the images? Race, age, gender?

  15. Art of the 21st century: Basquait We can read his pictures without strenuous effort—the words, the images, the colors and the construction—but we cannot quite fathom the point they make.. To enjoy them, we are not meant to analyze the pictures too carefully.

YOUR TASK For the next part of the project you will be creating a self portrait using one of the styles from the artists work, which you have just viewed-YOU get to choose which one… Will it be: 1.A frenetic colour self- portrait using the techniques mixing graffiti and mark-making as Basquait 2. A self portrait in the style of Vincent Van Gogh using firm brushstrokes. 3. A quirky self portrait using Frida Khalo as inspiration telling a story of how you feel inside? 4. A Picasso inspired self portrait using a colour to depict your mood?

  17. LEVEL 5: You can create an image which has some similarities. Your work is not complete and you can understand the work a little. LEVEL 6: You can create an image which has some similarities, it is almost completed, and you have some understanding of the work. LEVEL 7: You can create an image which has many similarities to the artists work. It is completed and evaluated fully showing understanding of the work.
