  2. What Is A Tour Leader Simply defined, a Tour Leader is a person who originates the tour. The Tour Leader is the person who has the idea, the contacts or the group who wants to take a trip together. This could be the head of a committee, a member of an organization, head of the family, class president, etc.

  3. What Does A Tour Leader Do If you decide to become a tour leader, there are two different ways you can do this. You can design the tour on your own or you can contact a travel agent. If you decide to do it on your own, the best thing you can do is find out from the group what they want and go from there. If you decide to work with a travel agent, just tell that person what you are looking for. If you decide to work with an agent there are only two responsibilities that you have: *Organizing the group *Having a good time

  4. What Types Of Tours Are There There are endless types of tours……US Based, Overseas, Cruises, Island Hopping, and many more. If you can imagine it, it probably exists! Tours vary in length from 2 day cruises to nowhere to 28 day Australia/South Pacific Explorers. Tours also very in price from very inexpensive bus tours to very high priced world tours.

  5. What Types Of Groups Are There If you belong to any type of organization or have friends and family you can organize a group tour. Girl Scouts Church Girlfriend Getaways Bachelor(ette) weekends Destination Weddings Family/School Reunions Birthdays/Holidays The list is endless!

  6. Traveling FREE Now that you have the basics the main question is: HOW DO I TRAVEL FOR FREE!!! That is very easy to answer…….

  7. Traveling Free Most tour companies, cruises, etc offer what they call Tour Conductor Points – NO that does not mean you have to actually guide the tour. They will send one person free for every so many that book…..

  8. EXAMPLE #1 You belong to a church group and you would like to take a group to Israel. You have absolutely no idea where to begin so you contact your travel agent. At that point your agent will ask some basic questions and gets some quotes for you. You present the tours to the church leader and they chose one. The only thing you have to do at that point is get the total number of people who want to go via a sign up sheet. Most tour companies will offer 1 free for every 8 purchased. So, the 9th person goes free. If you have 10 people interested you get to go free……. BUT be aware this only includes the land portion, you will be responsible for any air charges as well as taxes.

  9. Example #2 You have a family that would LOVE to take a cruise at Christmas. The same thing as Example 1 applies, only most cruise lines will only give 1 person for every 10 or 15 booked. Cruises will also offer different amenities for groups such as picture coupons, wine and chocolates, robes, etc for groups.

  10. How Do I Start? Try to think of how many groups you belong to. Talk to them to see if anyone would be interested in going somewhere such a Girls Getaway for Shopping/Spa. Las Vegas for a weekend, family cruise to the Caribbean, etc. This also applies to co-workers. Most companies have some sort of electronic bulletin board. Put up an ad to see if you can get some interest.

  11. Self Driven or Travel Agent If you are extremely organized you can plan a tour, trip, etc. Just do a search for where you want to go and see if any companies offer trips or cruises there. Call the company and see what the costs are, what’s involved, what they offer for tour leaders. OR Call your local travel agent and they will handle everything for you.
