  1. SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN- CRANE OPERATIONS - O. Boettcher, S. Prodon, I. Ruehl TS-IC

  2. The respect of crane safety operation zones is fundamental!

  3. WHY NOW? • The LHC installation enters the ‘busy’ phase regarding logistics and consequently regarding transport and handling activities. • more than 200(!) FTE under DBS contract • This is aggravated by the lack of adequate storage and handling space. • Crane and/or operator failures are seldom but NOT IMPOSSIBLE!

  4. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? • CRANE SAFETY OPERATION ZONES ARE OFTEN NOT RESPECTED • NOT FOR ‘PEOPLE’ • NOT FOR ‘MATERIAL’ • EXAMPLES

  19. WHAT SHALL BE DONE? • Review the space allocation. • Take out barracks wherever possible. • Create a safe place for the loading and unloading of trucks, which represents statistically the highest risk potential. • Plan difficult and/or repetitive crane operation well in advance. • Avoid passing over people and/or important/expensive/unique material.

  20. The crane operators are well informed to respect the crane safety operation zones but it is sometimes impossible for them to look behind walls and into barracks. Therefore we consider that the requestor for a handling service and the TSO assures that there are no persons within the non-visible crane safety operation zone.

  21. We need your help and cooperation in order to limit the risks! THANKS
