  4. Objectives • Identify pallet requirements by site (completed) • Communications & awareness • Minimize leakage & report results • MTE Inventory Control System • Verification receipt of quantity MTE provided • On Line status monitoring

  5. Results of GPS device • Embedded GPS tracking devices in pallet test yields results: • newspaper printing plant and printing warehouse used USPS pallets to store supplies for their operations • uncovered 1,500 more postal pallets stored at the printer’s Maryland facility

  6. Progress Report • Workgroup meetings - 4 • MTE Inventory Control System • Overview given 7/1/08 • Requirements for Phase I approved • On schedule for development early 2009

  7. Current Status • Round up • 1st - 50,000 pallets • 2nd – Ongoing effort • Alternative pallet types • Testing of lower cost plastic pallets with tracking devices (GPS) • Pallet approved • 16 lb. pallet – delivery begins August 1 • Supplier will continue to ramp-up production capability

  9. Next Steps • Continue development of Inventory Control System • focus on industry practice of pallet usage not related to the induction of mail • USPS is: • Purchasing 480,000 plastic pallets (8/4 – end of year) • meet DMM requirements • nest able • lower cost • lighter weight (16 lb.)
