  1. SMTF Meeting Report(Oct.5-7, 2005, FNAL) http://www.linearcollider.org/cms/?pid=1000106 http://ilc-dms.fnal.gov/Workgroups/SMTF/ Collaboration%20Meetings/SMTF%20Collaboration%20Meeting%20Oct%205%2C6%2C7%202005/ Oct. 14, 2005 KEK/ILC-Asia WG2 mtg Nobu Toge (KEK)

  2. Meeting Outline • 3-day meeting at FNAL. • Plenary sessions • The first day opening. • The last day close-out • Otherwise, parallel sessions • WG1: cavities • WG2: cryomodules • WG3: CW and beam testin  we did not attend • WG4: PD  we did not attend • In addition, • Collaboration board mtg (first day late afternoon, with P.Oddone, B.Barish and G.Dugan) • Technical board mtg (second day noon) • Non-US participation • Asian : N.Ohuchi (WG2), T.Saeki (WG1) and N.Toge (WG2) • European : DESY, INFN, both direct presence and via video

  3. SMTF Cavity Status (Mishra) • 4 units of TESLA design cavities from ACCEL (took 6 mo to fab) now under mechanical meas/testing at FNAL. • They will be BCPed at Cornell and be tested at FNAL with the goal ~ 25MV/m. • Then they will be EPed at Jlab and be tested FNAL with the goal ~ 35MV/m. • 4 or 8 additional cavities from AES will follow the same path. • They will be dressed, horizontal-tested then installed in the first cryomodule. • Plan exists to augment the EP facility by building a new one at ANL for accelerating the loop of production-and-processing.

  4. ACCEL Cavities @ FNAL Delivery date September 09, 2005, fabrication time 6 month

  5. A Joint ANL/FNAL Processing Facility Chemical Processing Rooms Air Scrubber

  6. SMTF Cryomodule Status (Mishra) • Conversion of DESY/INFN drawings (Type-III) into US system almost completed (keep metric scales; adopt US-spec stock items). • Getting ready to start ordering parts. • Cryomodule Assembly Facility (CAF) currently in preparation at MP9 area (design done, orders been placed). It will be used to build the module above in FY06-07.

  7. Cryomodule Assembly Facility (MP9) • Cavity will be dressed in CAF for horizontal test at Fermilab at PDTF. • Horizontally tested cavities will be assembled into a string at CAF. • Cryomodule fabrication takes place at CAF. • Single cryomodule will be tested at the ALCTF.

  8. SMTF General (Lockyer) • In the process of sorting out: • Relations of ILC/PD/RIA/CW components among SMTF • Relation of SMTF w.r.t GDE and world ILC activities in other regions. • Looking for a new name for the whole group (STELA?). And for individual projects (e.g. ILCTA, ILCTF etc) • Exploring ways to facilitate the growth of SRF capabilities in all three regions for ILC, e.g. three meetings per year with commonly shared agenda.

  9. Toge’s Personal Remarks (1)- Observations - • There will be a big pressure to start serious international discussion in late 2005-early 2006, for the next-stage ILC cryomodule development. • NA group is trying to ready themselves for that. • Likely scenario: • Formally start international design work in 2006, • intensity that in 2007, and • move on to the construction, assembly and testing following these. • Important prerequisites: • NA and AS teams to rapidly accumulate experience and thoughts. • In case of AS, sufficiently strengthen the cryostat team. • GDE figures out how to institutionalize the ILC collaboration framework under GDE.

  10. Toge’s Personal Remarks (2)- Possible Action Items - • We should draft our Phase-2 cryomodule plan. • Straw-man version of next-stage cryomodule that we need towards ILC. • Pay attention to outcome at Snowmass2005, SMTF last week and BCD. If appropriate, submit inputs. • Determine how it relates to STF Phase-2 cryomodule plan. • We should draft our international collaboration plan in FY2006 and beyond. • Technical aspects (e.g. what to build, how to test, what to verify) • Organizational aspects (e.g. how to discuss, how to share, how to parallelize) • We should submit proposals at Frascati and/or Bangalore, and take an initiative. • Do all three above, while keeping Phase-1 in pace and strengthening our SRF team particularly the cryostat area.
