  1. Madison County High School Summer School Program June 4-21, 2012

  2. Failed a Class? • If you need to re-take a class, summer is an opportunity for you to complete your credit through our computerized courses: • Credit Restoration • Credit Recovery • Electives

  3. Credit Restoration – What is it? • This is the “shortened” credit recovery option if you have already taken a class and failed with a grade of 60-69. • This option only allows you to make a 70 in the class, however it will change your grade to a 70 so that you no longer have a failing grade on your transcript.

  4. Credit Restoration – How Long? • It depends on how much you learned in class. • Each unit will have a pre-test • If you pass the pretest, you can skip that lesson. • If you fail the pretest, you must complete that lesson. • Computer labs will be open M-Th from 8:30-3:30 each day from June 4-June 21

  5. Credit Recovery – What is it? • This is the “full” credit recovery option if you have failed a class with a grade below 60. • The failing grade will always be on your transcript in addition to the grade you make on work in Credit Recovery.

  6. Credit Recovery – How Long? • May take anywhere from 40-100 hours, depending upon the course, your work ethic, and how much you learned when you took the course • Computer labs will be open M-Th from 8:30-3:30 each day from June 4-June 21

  12. Credit Recovery/Restoration System • E2020 • Internet-Based • Home or School (needs high-speed internet) • Need earphones/buds or speakers

  13. e2020 • Students using e2020 will have access to their class(es) from the time of sign-up through July 1. • You MAY do all of your work at home, EXCEPT for… • Cumulative exams and topic tests, which you MUST come to school to complete.

  14. e2020 • It is possible to complete an e2020 class and still fail the class. • You get only 2 attempts at any quiz/test – your highest grade of the two counts. • Thus, if you fail every assignment because you are not learning anything – you will not pass the class and not get credit for the course.

  15. Frequently Asked Questions… • What is the cost? • $20 for any summer school offerings – Credit Recovery, Restoration, PE, etc. • There will be no refunds for any reason, including dismissal from summer school due to discipline or attendance problems.

  16. Frequently Asked Questions… • Can I take a class to “get ahead”? • Yes, but not for core academic classes (Biology, English Lit, etc.). • We have several electives available, including Spanish I & II.

  17. Frequently Asked Questions… • Can I still do e2020 classes if I don’t have an Internet connection at home? • Yes – computers will be available at school during the times of summer school. Also, you could access the program at other places, such as a public library.

  18. Frequently Asked Questions… • What if I do not complete my course by the deadline? • You will not receive credit for the class. • You will, however, be allowed to continue working during the following school year (outside of the school day) • Is transportation provided? • No, you will need to have a ride to and from school and you are expected to be here everyday until your class is complete.

  19. Frequently Asked Questions… • Can I complete my graduation requirements through Summer School? • Yes – For example, if you are a senior and you fail English Literature this year, you may complete that credit during Summer School. • Students meeting graduation requirements over summer will have diplomas awarded at a summer graduation ceremony on August 25th in the high school theater.

  20. Frequently Asked Questions… • Will I need to take an EOCT? • Yes, but…ONLY if you are taking a Credit Recovery course (grade was lower than 60) in: 9th Lit, American Lit, Physical Science, Biology, U.S. History, Economics, Math 1, or Math 2. • Dates for these tests are: June 21st and 22nd.

  21. Frequently Asked Questions… • Can I take more than 1 class? • Yes. All deadlines and expectations remain the same. There is no additional cost for taking more than one class. • It is very difficult to finish more than one class if you have to use the credit recovery option due to the time involved for each course. It is very possible to finish more than one class using credit restoration.

  22. Frequently Asked Questions… • What are my expectations if I need to come to school for the summer program? • All school rules are enforced. • Absences, tardies, or leaving early will result in parental notification. Chronic problems will result in removal from summer school. • You may use the time from 11:30-12:30 for a lunch break. Lunch is NOT provided or available at the school during summer.

  23. How do I sign up? • Application forms will be available in the Guidance Office after spring break. • Complete your form & return, along with payment, to Dr. Spellman (located in the back corner of the media center). You can register through the week of May 28th. • See Dr. Spellman or someone in the Guidance Office if you have questions that are NOT answered here.
