Introduction:the early dayswwf vs nwa vs awa • The world wrestling federation based in new york was the the dominant force in pro wrestling from the early 80s up to 94 . • The nwa based in the carolinas were the main contender they were the national wrestling alliance . • Then the awa based in minnisota were the promotion called the amearican wrestling assosiation. • Lesser brands were the wccw in texas and the uswa in memphis these were both bought eventually by the awa in 1988 .
The wwf • The rise of the legendary hulk hogan and his imaginative visionary hulkamania was the attraction that made vince mcmahon rich. • Then the next step was the inaugeral wrestlemania in 1985 . • Hogan dominated 95% of the pay per view headliners for the next 8 years. • Other big names back then were macho man randy savage , the ultimate warrior and andre the giant .
The nwa • The nwa was ran by davey crocket promotions with its headquarters in charlotte, north carolina. • The main headliner was the nature boy ric flair. • He won his first world title in 1982. • The big names were harley race , the dragon ricky steamboat , buddy landell and the 4 horsemen with flair the leader the others varied from year to year.
The awa • The awa was Based in minnisota and dominated by mr. perfect curt hennig. • It included the early days of the rockers micheals and jannetty . • The awa then in 1988 bought world class championship wrestling which was based in texas and was a stronghold for the von errick dynasty . • To bring the companies together wccw champion kerry von errick fought uswa champ jerry the king lawler in a world title unification match which hennig won . • Then later that year awa champion curt hennig defeated lawler for the uswa and wccw titles to unify all three championships into just the awa championship.
The wwf 1990 - 1994 • With characters like undertaker , bret hart ,shawn micheals and the legion of doom on the rise and hogan , savage and warrior having there best years in 90,91 and 92 wwf was the place to be .With stars like the king , mr. Perfect and ric flair moving to the wwf after the wwf aquired the uswa and the awa.The violence factor increased in 1994 at wrestlemania x when shawn micheals met razor ramon in a ladder match.
Wcw in the early 90s The nwa was sold in 1991 when billionaire business tycoon ted turner aquired jim croquite promotions and renamed it wcw. Sting , ron simmons , lex luger and ricky steamboat were the fan favourites and van vader , sid vicous and rick rude were the heels . In 1993 flair came back to wcw and other stars were to jump ship from the wwf.
The wwf 1995 - 1997 • This was the start of the ratings war between wwf Monday night raw and wcw Monday nitro . • They played allot of cheap tricks on each other at this time wcw used to go on live and tell the results of wwf which would be recorded also wwf got very dodgey with material during this battle for supremacy . • Wcw started winning the ratings in 96 and 97.
Wwfvswcw 95 - 98 • The wwf had lost allot of talent such as hogan , savage , piper, warrior and luger. • Luger made a surprise appearance in the innougeral nitro in july 1995. • Wwf hit back bringin in a young hunter hearst helmsley with vader , fvarrooq and the rise of austin 3:16 . • But the wrestling world was in awe of the event in august 1996 when hulk hogan formed the nwo the new world order .
Wwfvswcw 95 - 98 • In wwf the situation in 96 was that shawn micheals and stone cold were flying high and the undertaker remained as the corner stone of the company . • Bret hart came back in november 96 with a pure hatred for all things amearican at one point referring to amearica as a giant toilet bowl . • Shawn micheals formed d- generation- x with triple h , chyna and rick rude .
Wwfvswcwthe controversial war • It was a serious case of one upsmanship by the time 1997 came around with the wwf doing every thing stopping at nothing to win ratings . • But with hogan ,nash ,hall , hennig, savage and debiase the front runners in the nwo the ball stayed with them for longer than anyone thought .The wwf resorted to dx with there sexual perverted humour and to austin with his bad attitude .
The wwfthe ressurection • Early 1999 brought about the propel of a few other stars such as the rock , mankind,kane ,chris jericho and the undertaker formed the ministry of darkness which was another daringly contrversial storyline. • He performed sacrifices on his victims and put them on his symbol like a crusifiction . • The big bossman and the british bulldog also came back.
The final days ofwcw 2000 and 2001 • Wcw was losing ratings every week at this point with new writers in the company and a badly run franchise it was clear turner had lost interest. • In early 2000 hogan fueded with flair yet again and luger with hennig. • Then in late october goldberg and bret hart had a great match. • And bret also had classic match with chris benoit In november.
2001: The end of wcw • It was march 2001 , it was Monday nitro in west palm beach , florida and vince mcmahon announced on the big screen from raw which was in new york that he had aquired wcw . • But then his son shane came out and announced that he signed the contract. • Ric flair fought sting in the main event of the final nitro.
The land of the extremeECW • EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING WAS FOUNDED IN 1992 by poul hayman and tommy dreamer. • It lasted until its dimise in 2000 . • It was to wrestling what metal is to music. • Blood gore and guts galore. • Dreamer , tazz, rvd , the fbi ,mike awesome , raven , axle rotten ,dudleys , terry funk and shane douglas among others have almost killed each other for ecw.
