Mapping Health Equity // What’s a Brownfield A brownfield is a former industrial or commercial site where future use is affected by real or perceived environmental contamination • Why are they significant to the health of our built environment? • Potential human health threat • Opportunity for infill development in areas where developable land is scarce

  4. Mapping Health Equity // Project Overview • Worked under grant from Oregon Health Authority • Bring perspective of health and equity to assist in prioritization of sites for cleanup and redevelopment

Mapping Health Equity // How does the tool work? • Leverage equity considerations to advocate for prioritization of publicly owned sites for assessment, cleanup and community informed development • Affordable housing, recreational space, community center, healthy retail food outlet • Leverage federal assessment and cleanup funds through targeting of vulnerable populations and demonstrated community benefit • Combat displacement through negotiating local contracting and workforce development training
