  2. Jackie Naughton I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington. I student taught in 3 months in Brown County and 3 months in Ireland. I was a Reading Tutor at Peifer Elementary. This is my 5th year at Homan.

  3. My Philosophy on Reading • Skills Prospective • Drawing meaning from the text • Use of prior knowledge to build background • The more you read, the more you learn about reading.

Schedule 8:00-8:30 Morning Business 8:30-9:00 RTI 9:00-9:45 Grammar/Writing 9:45-9:55 Snack Time & Brain Break 9:55-10:40 Specials 10:40-11:40 Math 11:40-12:05 Lunch 12:05- 12:35 Recess 12:40-2:10 Reading Block 2:05-2:10 Will be used to wrap-up what we did/learned for the day in reading and why it is important. 2:10-2:30 Science/Social Studies/ Health

  6. Additional Supplies • Hand sanitizer • Pencil sharpener • Post-it notes Please be sure to read the attendance & illness and birthday treat policy.

Assessments • Weekly Reading Tests on Friday • Weekly Vocabulary Quizzes on Thursday • Weekly Spelling Tests on Friday • Weekly or biweekly Grammar quizzes on Thursdays • MCLASS nonsense word (done 1st 9 weeks and then as needed) • MCLASS DORF (done 3 times a year or as needed) • MCLASS TRC (done 3 times a year or as needed) • Unit Benchmark Tests (every 5 weeks) • Unit Spelling Test (every 5 weeks) • Unit Writing Prompts (every 5 weeks) • Other various writings will be graded throughout our units. These will count as quiz grades.

  10. Assignment Notebook • Check nightly Newsletter and Website • Newsletter sent home Friday and website updated on Monday. Check these weekly.

Homework and Class work • Every night besides Friday • Follows same schedule (check agenda or website) • Should also be reading and practicing spelling and math facts • Class work sent as additional homework if not completed • “N” on test must be signed and returned. It may • also include reinforcement work. • Accelerated Reader • Math Drills- Rocket Math • Spelling

  16. Before School Tutoring • Teacher recommendations only • Tuesday is math, check agenda Monday evening for invitation • Wednesday is reading

  17. After school arrangements • Send a note or call office Lunch Money and Menu • Can be done online • If sending in money, make sure it is in a labeled envelope. • NO LOOSE CASH!

  18. Snack and Water • Healthy snack before specials • Water bottles can be kept at desk if: contain only water • have a secure lid

  20. On the back table is a signup sheet for volunteers. Please only volunteer to be head room mom for one child. Again, you will need to fill out a background check form is you wish to ever participate with our class. This includes: field trips, parties, themed days, field day, etc. Our first field trip will be to the Safety Village in September.
