  1. Research Process Example Interpretation Students have positive attitudes to research and statistics. Males and Females have similar attitudes. Younger students are more positive than older students. Data Analysis Visual Displays Descriptive Statistics Measurement Reliability Validity Observation What? Students’ attitudes to research and statistics. How? Twelve-item survey instrument, 5 research, 5 stat, sex, and age questions. Who? 96 volunteers, convenience sample. What is (are) the question(s)? What are students’ attitudes toward research and statistics? Are attitudes toward research and statistics related? Do males and females have different attitudes? Do students in different age groups have different attitudes? Research Consulting Center Statistics Lab CLCC 107 www.west.asu.edu/rcc (602) 543-6117

  2. Overview of the Research Process DISCUSSION SECTION Interpretation How have we answered the questions? RESULTS SECTION Data Analysis Descriptive Statistics Inferential Statistics METHODS SECTION Measurement Validity - accuracy Reliability - precision METHODS SECTION Observation What do we to observe? (What are the variables?) How do we do the observations? (What are the instruments and procedures?) How many and which one’s? (What’s the population?) (How do we get the sample?) AT THE END OF LITERATURE REVIEW OR INTRODUCTION What is the question? What do we want to know about a (an) - cell - organism - group of organisms - interactions among organism - relationship of organism and environments Research Consulting Center Statistics Lab CLCC 104 www.west.asu.edu/rcc (602) 543-6117
