  1. Trash your Trash! Caroline Chelton

  2. What is Trash? • Trash is waste that is left behind that cannot be used for anything else. Trash can be made of many things – plastic, rubber, paper, glass, aluminum, and many other materials. • As we have learned, candy is usually in a wrapper. Once the wrapper is off the candy, however, it becomes trash.

  3. Trash should not be thrown just anywhere. It is very important to throw trash away in a TRASH CAN, or a GARBAGE CAN.

  4. Types of Trash • Biodegradable – this means that the trash is made up of materials that can break down and not hurt the environment. • Non-biodegradable – this means the trash is NOT made up of materials that can break down. This type of trash can hurt the environment.

  5. What about candy wrappers? Sadly, candy wrappers are not biodegradable. They are made of plastic which stays around in trash form for years and years. Together, we will go over the steps to the right way to dispose of trash, including candy wrappers.

  6. Steps to Trashing your Trash! • Unwrap your candy. • Locate a trash can nearby. • Make sure you throw trash directly in trash can. • If you see another person drop trash on the floor, ask them to put it in the trash can. If they do not, be kind and pick it up for them.

  7. Any bit of help counts! Be sure to spread the word to your friends and family that it’s a great idea to trash your trash!

  8. Questions • What is trash? • Where should you throw your trash? • What are three materials that trash can be made of? • What is biodegradable trash? • What is non-biodegradable trash? • Are candy wrappers biodegradable or non-biodegradable?
