TECHNICAL FIRING ASPECTS OF BOILER The technical firing of solid fuels depend largely on the speed of combustion, which relies on the fuel layer thickness of the grate, speed of the grate and air flow. Optimal setting of the Boiler/Kiln is achieved when the substrate stops burning and glowing just before the end of the grate. The right setting of air flow is important for achieving acceptable CO and NOX emissions. High excess air leads to high losses of heat and high NOX emission. Low excess air leads to high CO-emission, black smoke and a high carbon content of ash.

The combustible sulphur is released in the form of SO2, an air borne pollutant. • Arm – Coaltec as an additive has seals & catalysts that absorbs and captures the SO2 produced in the furnace. The additive effectively absorbs the SO2 in the first stage ,converts it into a sulphate and retains it within the ash.

FUNCTIONS AND UTILITIES De-Ashing and De-Dusting Agent 4 • Facilitates removal of contaminants from the furnace water wall and heat transfer surfaces by making the dust loose, powdery and porous. • Better efficiency and prevention of heat losses. • It is estimated that an accumulation of 1mm of soot increases fuel consumption by 5%. • Use of additive results in large savings in the long run.

  16. FUNCTIONSAND UTILITIES Enhances coal combustion by cracking the layers of coal and making them fluffy. LOOSENING AGENT 6 ANTI-CORROSIVE AGENT • As Boilers/Kilns are subjected to continued usage, the thickness of the walls may reduce owing to corrosion. Contaminants such as residual dust, ash and smoke which impact the furnace walls, increase with passage of time which in turn reduces efficiency in the long run. • The additive contains a High temperature corrosion inhibitor that protects the furnace wall and apparatus from corrosion and thinning due to attack.

  17. IMPLEMENTING THE ADDITIVE AND TRIALS Before implementing the fuel additive, the Boiler/Kiln parameters will be studied by ARM personnel and its agencies along with the plant. A CDE Customer Data Evaluation (Detailed) will becompiled, as a pre-cursor to the proposal of a suitable solution with its allied benefits. Based on the collected data the methodology for the trial will be determined. The trials can be long term lasting 4 to 6 weeks or a short term run lasting 10 – 12 days depending on the system. From the results of this practical run, the benefits of the additive can be realized and accurate savings will be determined.

  18. INVESTMENTS AND OPERATING COSTS For the application of the Additive, dosing equipment is required, which consists of a vibro-dozer / screw feeder. The type & cost of this dosing equipment depends on the kind of Boiler/Kiln system. ARM Pvt. Ltd. is prepared to submit a specified offer for investment costs if the necessary data of Boiler/Kiln and installation site is known. The operational costs of Fuel Additive dosing is dependent on fuel characteristics and the furnace / burning situation. They can be calculated & ascertained after the aims of the Fuel Additive application are determined . The dosing rate depends on the type of fuel & operating conditions of the Boiler/Kiln. The ratio of dosing is approximately 1 kg : 3MT of solid fuel.
