  2. Top Ten Internet Uses The following presentation represents what I believe to currently be the Top Ten Internet Uses. The categories rank in no particular order, as I feel they all serve their respective purposes.

  3. Communication Instant Messaging and E-mail have enabled users to communicate freely without boundaries or time constraints. Sites such as yahoo.com provide instant message and email services that allow people to connect all over the world.

  4. Research Search engines such as google.com and yahoo.com have made research capabilities endless. Search engines have progressed research, while helping reduce the time it traditionally takes.

  5. Entertainment Websites such as facebook.com and twitter.com are used by people all over the world for entertainment purposes. There are many different applications that provide a variety of games to entertain users.

  6. News & Current Events Websites such as msnbc.com and cnn.com are reputable sources for providing users with up-to-date news on current events. These sources provide users with insight without having to purchase a local newspaper.

  7. Networking Websites such as ohahperd.org are great for networking with other educators in our profession. Sites such as this one are great because tips and strategies van be exchanged amongst educators and they can be miles away.

  8. Mapping Information Websites such as mapquest.com provide users with directions to get anywhere they need to go, from any location. These sites also provide a variation of alternative routes for travelers.

  9. Education Websites such as troy.blackboard.com enable students to engage in coursework through distance learning. This is big because it enables students to receive an education online, while still being able to fulfill other employment and family obligations.

  10. Online Shopping Online shopping saves consumers the “hectic” atmosphere of crowded shopping centers. Consumers can purchase items online, and often times cheaper than the prices of retail stores. Polo.com is a very popular website.

  11. Online Banking & Bill Payment Online Banking and Bill Payment provide users with the opportunity to transfer money and handle financial obligations from the comfort of their own home. Chase.com is an excellent example.

  12. Collegiate Resources The internet is often used for Collegiate resources. Websites such as fafsa.gov and studentloans.gov provide users access to resources that can help continue their education. Insight on grants, financial aid, and scholarships are very common topics.
