  • Definition- “a powerful force characterized by strong feelings of pride in and devotion to one’s nation. It gives people a sense of identity beyond their family and local area.”

    • Not all people have a nation of their own.
    • Some countries have many nationalities.
  • SO…
    • Nationalism can apply to a people who want their own country, or to be free from imperialism or outside rule.

  • Patriotism involves:
    • Loyalty and pride in one’s country
    • BUT, less desire to force that way
