Methadone Utilization at Eagleville Hospital • Opiate Detoxification • Induction of Methadone Maintenance for Pregnant Females • Detoxification from other substances for Methadone Maintenance Patients • Rehabilitation of Methadone Maintenance Patients for other substances of abuse with return to Methadone Clinic

  3. Board Questions • Is Methadone Maintenance consistent with our traditional drug free programming? • Is Methadone Maintenance more addicting? • How would this effect our reputation in the community? • How will we assure it is implemented correctly?

The Journey to Additional Paths to Recovery • Board Education to broaden their view of additional paths to recovery. • Satisfying board concerns in reference to safety and efficacy. • Soliciting a letter of support from the Board of Directors to for submission to licensing bodies. • Soliciting input and agreement from Medical and Psychiatric Staff

  5. Barriers • Achieving Board approval • Staff acceptance • Multiple regulatory demands and limited resources • Development of policies and procedures for patient selection criteria • Development of an educational program to meet the needs of all

Successes • Achieved Letter of support from board • Developed policies and procedure for selection and medication protocols • Developed electronic learning primor with 85% completion rate • Developed and a role specific learning program and implementation underway • Ability to begin to expand our comprehensive services. • Application of request submitted to regulatory bodies October 2012

Next Steps • Looking forward to evolution of other medication assisted treatment modalities • Await regulatory approval • Continue and revisit round tables once program is implemented • Continue to evaluate current practice and look to streamline evidence based care as it applies to medication assisted treatment • Look to collaborate in best practice initiatives to support positive patient outcomes
