  5. Title I Status • The number of students on free lunch is 201 or 72.56% of total enrollment. • The number of students on reduced lunch is 30 or 10.83% of total enrollment. • The number of students below the poverty level is 14.55%. • Many of our students do not have a computer at home.

  6. What We Know • It appears that socio economic levels, not race or family structure, produces differences and discrepancies in: • Cognitive scores • Vocabulary development • Reading levels • Overall student achievement

  7. What my students need to know • You careabout them. • Doing well in school really matters. • Their dream of college can actually happen. • How will they do this? • How hard will it be? • How are Youaccomplishing your goals?

How This Will Work • Be a pen pal toa 4th grade student • Read and respond to each other about selected stories • Write a letter once a month to your new friend • November through May • Submit your letter to Mr. Chamberlin for delivery • Be SURE this is a commitment you can make! • And the students will write back to you… • Reach me: Molly Worner, GRT wornems@d11.org

  9. Some ideas… • Top ten favorites ( movies, books, foods, etc.) • What’s your favorite outdoor place, or your favorite season? Draw and write. • Describe a school project you are working on. • What is your favorite or funniest school memory? • Write about your dreams for the future. What would you like to do? Where would you like to go?
