  1. Opportunities as a Nuclear Engineer at a US National Laboratory • Work with top experts • World-class experimental facilities • High-performance computing facilities • International travel • Pleasant work environment

  2. Kirsten Laurin-Kovitz • I became an engineer because I like to solve problems • I studied engineering at University of Illinois and Northwestern University • My PhD research at Argonne National Laboratory focused on nuclear reactors and how small changes in the fuel can effect the power output • Currently I use my nuclear engineering knowledge to make the world safer • I travel the world teaching people how to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons http://energy.gov/diversity/articles/women-energy-kirsten-laurin-kovitz

  3. J’Tia Taylor • I became an engineer because I liked math & science and wanted to help solve problems • I studied engineering at Florida State University and University of Illinois • My PhD research focused on how different nuclear reactors affect cost, waste and safety in the fuel cycle • Currently I use my nuclear engineering knowledge to make the world safer • I analyze nuclear equipment, technology to make sure they aren’t used in unsafe ways http://energy.gov/diversity/articles/women-energy-jtia-taylor

  4. Nuclear Energy Policy - Lenka Kollar • Visit senators and representatives on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC • Make a difference by influencing energy policy

  5. Opportunities at a Nuclear Power Plant • People need energy! • Generate the electricity that people are using rightnow • Make positive impact on the community • Troubleshoot on teams • Working with others • Technically fun and challenging • Go into the power plant

  6. Why do I like my job? • Because I get to: • Work with different people… • Travel… • Learn about technology… • Develop and learn new skills… • Grow as a person and as a professional… • Make good money ($$$).

  7. Jeff Dunlap

  8. Career Options • Research at a National Lab • Nuclear Power Generation • Medical • Government/NAVY/ Military • Aerospace • Universities • Etc.
