  1. Janitor Janus was a roman god of hallways, doorways, bridges, gates, the ruler of Latium, was responsible for the Golden Age and brought money and agriculture to the area. He is associated with trade, streams and springs. He could have been an early sky god.

  2. Summary of myth The Romans revered Janus for his strength and loyalty. He saw an army trying to kidnap Roman women he got so angry that he made a volcanic hot spring erupt, burying the attackers and saving the women. In gratitude for this and for many ways he looked after them, the Romans carved Janus’s likeness on the top of nearly every city gate, allowing him to watch over every citizen’s Inside and to keep a sharp look out for approaching enemies
