HISTORY • Mintails SA started in the West Rand area in 2006 • Mintails SA brought Mogale Gold out of JM – part of the process • was separation of historical liabilities • Mogale Gold does not have any underground operations • Mogale Gold reprocesses old tailings dump • Neither Mintails or Mogale accept liability for AMD • Mintails was one of the founding members of the WBEC in 2007 • Mintails has supported the WUC proposal since the inception of • WUC as it was based on the 2006 directive and subsequent • recommendations by DWAF • Since its inception Mintails continuously assisted in the • treatment of the AMD “in good faith” without accepting any • liability • Directive issued in 2009 forced Mintails to approached the High • Court in 2010 - Directive was suspended

MINTAILS SA’S CONTRIBUTON HDS water treatment plant (R20 million) constructed in 2008 – partially treated water (neutralise and metal removal) Since March 2008 water plant pumped and treated 9 160ML of AMD and discharged 4 019ML at an approximate cost of R40 million. Mogale cannot sustain this level of expenditure For this reason it continuously supported the efforts of WUC, WBEC and other mines in finding a LONG TERM SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION

  4. MINTAILS SA’S CONTRIBUTON Mogale received authorisation to backfill the West Wits Pit (WWP) since 2008 The WWP belongs to the Mogale City Local Municipality Council of Geosciences reported that the WWP contribute approximately 16 to 20% of the ingress into the Western Basin
