  1. PROJECT APPLICATION FOR ENHANCING SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND APPLICATION OF ILS AND FA BY EI ITGLWF IUF PSI UNI

  2. AIMS • The aim is to create a pool qualified leaders and activists who will be equipped with the skills and knowledge on ILS and FA, who will act as resource persons and further be involved in monitoring and overseeing and inplementation of labour standards in their unions

  3. Long term objectives • Create awareness on the importance of ILS and FA in trade unon activities • Create awareness on human rights and freedom of association • Decentralisation and empowerment • Develop, strengthen and democratisation of Trade Unions

  4. Short Term Objectives • Increase the membership • Increase the scope for organising • Build a pool of qualified of effective leaders and activists • Increase participation of women and youth • Encourage and motivate leadership qualities and renewal • Strengthen and build cooperation and solidarty among the ITS and their affiliates

  5. Indicators of Achievements • Increase in the membership • Increse of affiliation dues and regular collection • Improvement in financial capability • Increase participation of women and youth • Active participation of leaders at all levels • Formation of committees on ILS and FA • Improve understanding, cooperation and solidarity among ITS and affiliates

  6. Project Design • Joint course on ILS and FA • Jointly organised by ITS and ILO Actrav • At the end of the course the participants will be enable to improve their capacity in applying ILS and FA and act as resource persons in their trade unions • Establishment of committees on ILS and FA in their trade unions

  7. Project Activities • Title: Course on ILS and FA • Theme: Enhancing skills, knowledge and application of ILS and FA • PY: 2001-2002 • Duration: Five Days • Venue: Turin Centre or in the Region (ILO) • Target: 25 activists/leaders from affiliates with balance representation of women

  8. Funding • To be jointly funded by ILO Actrav and ITSs • Estimates: • Course facilities USD 10,000 • Accomodation USD 5,000 • Travel USD 10,000 • Training Materials USD 3,000 • Contingency USD 2,000 • Total USD 30,000

  9. Methodology • Active and participatory learning methods • Group discussion • Plenary • Role Play • Brainstorm • Case studies • Esercises • Lectures and discussions

  13. Conclusion • There is a strong need to espand the skills and knowledge on ILS and FA among ITSs and their affiliates. The ILS and FA are great assets and tools for trade unions to rely on in strengthening and sustaining them to face the challenges of globalisation. We believe that this project will be a great asset for the trade unions in enabling them to play the rightful role in the new knowledge economy and society.
