Information Session Objectives • Provide an overview of the National Health Service Corps Virtual Job Fairs • Share requirements for NHSC sites to participate in future Virtual Job Fair opportunities • Offer tips to sites about how to make an effective Virtual Job Fair presentation • Share an NHSC site’s Virtual Job Fair experience

  3. What is a Virtual Job Fair?

  4. What is a Virtual Job Fair? • An innovative tool allowing NHSC-approved sites to promote job opportunities to a targeted audience of primary care clinicians who are interested in serving communities with limited access to health care • A Virtual Job Fair removes barriers typically associated with job fairs, including: • Traveling to an event • Cost to participate • Time commitment to staff a job fair booth

  5. What is a Virtual Job Fair? • The goal of the Virtual Job Fair is to connect primary care job seekers with NHSC-approved sites with job openings • The Virtual Job Fair: • Allows sites to advertise openings to a wider audience than may be available through traditional means • Connects health care providers with NHSC sites in targeted areas where they are looking to serve • Provides health care providers the opportunity to explore sites and job opportunities they may not have been aware of or considering

  6. What is a Virtual Job Fair? Using Adobe Connect technology and conference call lines, NHSC sites are each given 20 minutes in a “virtual” breakout room to make a presentation about: Your community and what it offers to providers Details about the positions available at your site Information about the people you serve – what makes your patient population unique Following the presentation, sites and providers interact, and providers may ask sites questions online using a “chat” feature or over the phone

  7. Can I Participate? NHSC Virtual Job Fairs are targeted events, therefore in some situations, site participation may be limited based on: • Geographic location • HPSA score • Types of positions available (e.g., medical, dental, mental and behavioral health) • Type of community served (e.g., urban, rural, frontier)

  8. Site Participation Instructions

  9. Requirements for Site Participation Space is limited to sites looking to promote job opportunities. Typically, 24 sites present during each job fair, but many presenters represent multiple locations. To participate, your site must be: • An NHSC-approved site in good standing with the Corps • Looking to fill a primary care job opening in 2013/early 2014 • Able to access a computer, the Internet, and a phone line the day of the job fair In addition, sites must have a completed site profile in the NHSC Jobs Center

  10. Requirements for Site Participation • Sites are required to register to participate. To register, sites must respond to the Virtual Job Fair invite and provide: • Presenter contact information • A list of positions the site is looking to fill • Once the registration period is closed, the NHSC will confirm a site’s participation via e-mail • Once participation is confirmed, site is required to: • Create a PowerPoint presentation • Participate in an Adobe Connect run through session with NHSC staff • Update their NHSC Jobs Center Site Profile to reflect the job openings that will be promoted during the event • Provide contact information they wish to share with participating providers

  11. Update Your NHSC Jobs Center Site Profile As of January 1, all NHSC sites must have a basic site profile to continue to list job opportunities in the NHSC Jobs Center • Completing a site profile is easy and lets you showcase your site for NHSC applicants, participants and other primary care providers • Upload photos, brochures, and other information to let applicants know why they should consider applying • For instructions on how to update your site profile, visit NHSC.hrsa.gov/sites/SiteProfile and watch the instructional video

  14. How to Make an Effective Virtual Job Fair Presentation

  15. Know Your Audience • What is motivating your audience to take part in the Virtual Job Fair? • Who will be participating in the event? • New providers who recently completed their health care training or more experienced providers who have been serving in the field • What do these providers already know about your practice and community? • What other details do you know about your audience?

  16. Showcase Your Community Your Virtual Job Fair PowerPoint presentation should focus on the following: • Positions available at your site • Discuss the full benefits package (e.g., pay, health benefits, time off, training opportunities) • Your site’s facility and staff • The people your site serves • The community you are located in and what it offers interested applicants • Include photos of your community and information about school systems, shopping and dining options, other health facilities, entertainment, and nearby sites and cities • Make sure to give the provider more information than they can find on Google. What would you want to know about your community?

  17. What Makes Your Site Unique? Find your unique selling point: • Consider what is going to motivate candidates to follow up with you after the event • Identify what makes your practice, your community, and your overall opportunity different from the other sites participating in the Virtual Job Fair Make sure to consider the provider’s family when making your presentation: • Acknowledge that your opportunity should involve the entire family in the recruitment process Discuss any perks to the job and emphasize the most attractive elements of the opportunity
