  8. Historical Dates The War of the Pacific (1879-1883) Chile won and acquired lands rich in nitrates and closed off Bolivia’s entrance to the Pacific The Chaco War (1932-1935) Bolivia lost lots of lives and land in the defeat by Paraguay. It’s greater impact was bringing political awareness to many indigenous peoples in Bolivia which lead to the 1952 revolution In 1952 the Nationalist Revolutionary Movement led a successful revolution and brought forth ideas such as male suffrage and rural education.

  9. Historical Figure Simon Bolivar (1783-1830) Liberated many South American countries including: Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, and of course Bolivia Bolivia was named in honor of the military leader after he released them from Spanish rule in 1825 with the help of his military forces

  10. Current Issues in Bolivia Dredging- making the waterways in Bolivia deeper is causing a great amount of damage to aquatic eco-systems Malnutrition- roughly 5 million people and 40% of the children in some of the poorest households suffer from this disease Industry meets Environment-Bolivia and many other South American countries are having heated debates over how or if they should cut back on mining and natural gas extraction to protect the environment

  11. Culture Bolivian music has gone through many changes and influences especially during Spanish control, but after the 1952 revolution that brought nationalistic ideas, folk music made a comeback and became a mainstay in Bolivian culture.

  12. Bolivia-U.S Relations For the most part Bolivia and the U.S. have remained friendly and corporative and the U.S has provided financial aid as need be. However, in 2008 under the Morales administration relations turned sour as the U.S. removed all aid from a region widely known for its coca production. The U.S. and Bolivia have gone back and forth on the topic of coca growing and a permanent solution is not in the foreseeable future.
