History • Professional Dress for Employees • No formal policy for employees in effect – Referenced in Employee Handbook • No policy adopted or proposed with July 1, 2011ASBA adoption • October 2011 District presented to the Board the plan to develop policy and regulation • Committee of volunteers created to address developing policy and regulations • Shared recommendations from Committee with Association Advisory and Administration • Bringing forward the combination of efforts to determine Board direction

  4. Committee Work • 36 volunteers- teachers, support staff and administrators • 5 meetings from October to December • Reviewed dress code policies from private sector companies as well as other school districts • Discussions included: developing philosophy, enforcement and safety

  6. Purpose Statement • All employees represent PUSD, therefore professional appearance is expected in order to support a positive educational environment.

How the two sides met • Broad purpose-driven policy • Expectation that District will provide additional support through training • Training Administrators to handle tough conversations • Setting expectation to review each year, every campus • Specific guidelines inregulation • Definitions that exceed student dress expectations • Authority granted to Administrators to give final guidance and enforce the policy and guidelines ontheir campus
