  1. Tour of the Cell:Plastids Veronica Zimmerman NOT Amanda Sabol

  2. Structure of Chloroplasts -Contains green pigment called chlorophyll, enzymes and other molecules -Lens shaped -2 micrometers by 5 micrometers

  3. Structure cont. • Granna- made of thylakoids, flattened sacs in membranous system, stacked like poker chips • Thylakoid membrane- divides the interior of chloroplasts in 2 compartments-> thylakoid space and stroma space • Stroma- fluid outside thylakoids

  4. Function of Chloroplasts -Aids in photosynthesis -Capture light energy and convert to chemical energy

  5. Other Plastids • Leukoplasts- colorless; in roots and non-photosynthetic tissues in plants; bulk storage of starch • Amyloplasts- colorless; store starch particularly in roots and tubers • Chromoplasts- enriched in pigments; give fruits and flowers their orange and yellow hues

  6. What is a chloroplast’s shape? Lens Shaped Star Shaped Cloud Shaped Oval Shaped

  7. Correct!Yay!

  8. You’re Wrong! Guess Again.Boo.

  9. What do granna look like? Circular Lens Shaped Stacked Poker Chips Helical

  10. The Thylakoid membrane divides the interior of chloroplasts in 3 compartments True False

  11. The stroma is the fluid outside of the thylakoids. True False

  12. How do chloroplasts aid in photosynthesis? Captures light energy and converts to chemical energy. Utilizes nutrients in roots to transform energy.
