  1. About the Program English for Construction Trades is a free course to help immigrant workers improve their ability to fit in and get ahead in construction trades. Canadian construction workplace English is taught in the context of authentic construction tasks and meetings. Topics include: • Talking to your supervisors • Speaking up at meetings • Working with partners • Getting along with coworkers • Getting your message across • Asking questions

  2. Eligibility Requirements The project is funded through CIC and Welcome BC and as such Eligible Clients are defined as the following: • Permanent residents of Canada; or • Protected persons as defined in section 95 of the IRPA; or • Individuals who have been selected, in Canada, to become permanent residents (pending medical, security and criminal verifications) and who have been informed of this by a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada; or • Live-in caregivers who are in Canada with a work permit under the Live-in Caregiver Program and • Speak English as a second language at a CLB level 6* (*levels close to this may also be considered) and • May have certification in a skilled construction trade; or • Have experience working as a non-skilled labourer in the construction industry and are in the process of seeking certification in a skilled trade; or • Have experience working as a skilled labourer in the construction industry in Canada or first country; or • Require higher level language training to fully use their existing skills and abilities in the workforce; and • Are able to commit to complete 15 weeks of the program

  3. Applicants make an appointment for a short face-to-face interview(15 minutes) at MOSAIC English Language Centre and will be scheduled for a CLB Placement Test. (measures everyday English LSRW) Methods of Assessment

  4. Class Schedule Start date is on October 16, 2012. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday, 9am- 3pm. There is Christmas break and the final day of classes is February 7, 2013.
