  2. Electrical Equipment InspectionProgram Update • Safety Engineering Group is finding equipment in Labs, high bays, workshops, etc. that have not been inspected. WHY? • The EEI program is well developed and mature –there is no reason for equipment in use not to have been inspected!

  3. Equipment with either of these two tags must be corrected. All equipment in use at BNL must be approved. • Conditional equipment, even though safe to use, does not meet the requirement to be approved and must be repaired or disposed. Conditional approval is for short term use only. • Rejected equipment can not be in use, must be out-of-service - either repair or disposed. Conditional Rejected

What does “approved” mean? • Equipment with a green circle that says “approved” • Means at the time of inspection this equipment met the requirements of the Electrical Equipment Inspection Program. However, this equipment still requires user inspection prior to use. Examples of “approved” equipment that later had problems are the HP air pump that had damaged insulation causing a shock and the tea pot that had damaged cord causing a burn on the finger. • The user is responsible for verifying that the equipment is in good condition prior to use Approved
