CPT Coding OpportunityLynn Wegner, MD, Chair, AAP Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics; Spring 2007 Section Newsletter. ‘The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Subcommittee on Health Care Access and Economics has requested collaboration on new code proposals to more clearly describe the mutual services pediatricians and child psychiatrists provide.’ • Ongoing process • Several code revisions are currently in process. • Please send suggestions ASAP • New codes • Existing code revisions.

Improving Mental Health in Primary Care Through Access, Collaboration and Training (IMPACT)* • Provide PCPs with tools and support to provide community-based, collaborative care • Provide website with information and resources for parents, pediatricians and child health professionals: www.aap.org/commpeds/dochs/mentalhealth/ * An AAP and MCHB Collaboration

  12. AAP Taskforce on Mental Health • Recommendations anticipated in late 2007/early 2008. Tasks included: • Tool kit - How to screen, diagnose, and treat 4-5 most common MH conditions. • Create a training to accompany the tool kit to educate pediatricians on screening, diagnosis, treatment, cultural effectiveness • Create a screening tool or approach to assist in evaluating the family's wellness. • Develop and disseminate educational material to parents on the appropriate stages of child development, parenting methods, and where to seek help if mental health treatment is needed. • ‘Anticipate state AAP Chapters will be instrumental in implementing many of the recommendations.’
