  1. Sermon • Christ our Peace • Ephesians 2:13ff • Introduction

  2. 11Therefore REMEMBER that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called "the uncircumcision" by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands--

  3. 12remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world

  4. [13] But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. [14] For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

  5. [15] by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, [16] and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. [17] And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

  6. [18] For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. [19] So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

  7. [20] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, [21] in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. [22] In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:13-22 ESV)

  8. "But now" is the Divine counter fact. • Brought Near By The Blood of Christ v. 13 • He Himself Is Our Peace- v. 14-15

  9. The death of his son breaks down the barriers because it says to each person “You’re so bad off that you can only be saved by the death of my son.”

  10. "This peace is the inner assurance known by a believer that all is well because the curse of the law has been removed, the guilt transferred, the punishment born and salvation procured." (Hendriksen)

  11. WHY THE ENMITY? • It is the result of pursuing righteousness by performance • We divide the world into two groups: Those like me and those not like me.

  12. Reconciled In One Body- v. 16 • Reconciliation happens when the terms of justice are satisfied, and the offended parties are brought together again

  13. GENTILES AND JEWS MADE ONE- v. 18 • The Christian Jew had more in common with the Christian gentile than with the Jews who didn’t trust Christ.

  14. PRACTICE THE PRESENT VALUE OF THE BLOOD OF CHRIST • We should live blood stained lives, where the truth of the work of Christ seeps into every aspect of our being

  15. Don’t pretend to be alright with God if you’re not reconciled with fellow believers. • Only the cross shows that God is so holy, just and committed to reconciliation that He had to die; and so loving that He was glad to die.
