  1. GDT Street Data Processing in RTP EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting, 09/14 – 09/17/2004 EPA ORD NERL Lab, Las Vegas, Nevada Tim Richards GIS Service Manager EPA OEI/OTOP/NTSD Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 27709 Phone: 919-541-5307 Email: richards.tim@epa.gov EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  2. 4 Tasks to Process the GDT Street Data • Deliver the GDT street data CDs to EPA Regional Offices • Great joint effort by EPA OEI and EPA Regional Offices • All EPA Regional Offices received their GDT street data CDs in July 2004. • Create an FTP service for the GDT street data within the EPA Intranet • Load the GDT street data into SDE/Oracle database. • Create Web services for the GDT street data EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  3. FTP Service for the GDT Street Data • EPA Regional Offices received GDT street data for their own Regions. However, they need to access and download the GDT street data for areas that are adjacent to their regions. • The RTP GIS team set up a FTP service for the GDT street data in August 2004. • This FTP service allows EPA users to download the original GDT street data (shapefile) for any county in the country • Other data included in the GDT street data package (such as census block) are also available from this FTP service. EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  4. How to Download GDT Street from the FTP Service in RTP • Email the IP address of the machine you will use to download the GDT street data to: ESRISupport@epa.gov • Your IP address will then be added to the “access control” list for the FTP service. • Detailed information on how to download data from this FTP site will be sent to you the same day as your request. • The FTP service connection info: • FTP server: rsori.rtpnc.epa.gov (134.67.49.11) • FTP user names: esriprod • FTP password: esriprod0609 • The IP address of your machine needs to be in the “access control file before you can start the FTP process. EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  5. Loading the GDT Street Data into SDE/Oracle Database. • RTP has completed loading the GDT street data for the whole country into an ArcSDE 9 and Oracle 9.2 database. • A detailed metadata record for the GDT street data is being created as part of the database and will be completed next week. • RTP has completed a draft document about how to load the GDT street data using a Visual Basic script and ArcObjects. • RTP is in a process of preparing a document about how to load the GDT street data using ArcCatalog. This document will be available next week. • Special thanks to Tom Giffen of EPA Region One for his assistance on how to load the GDT street data using a Visual Basic script and ArcObjects. • RTP will provide technical assistant to any EPA user with loading the GDT street data using ArcCatalog or the Visual Basic script. EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  6. Web Services for the GDT Street Data • ArcIMS feature service for the GDT street data • RTP completed an ArcIMS feature service for the GDT data. • The feature service allows EPA users to display, query, and download the GDT street data using ESRI tools such as ArcGIS • The ArcIMS feature service host: cook.rtp.epa.gov (134.67.49.12) • TheArcIMS feature service name: gdt_street • EPA GIS users can use ArcGIS tools to download the GDT street data through this ArcIMS feature service. • EPA users can develop web applications that use this ArcIMS feature service as a “live” data source. • More information about this ArcIMS feature service is available from the RTP GIS portal: http://intranet.epa.gov/rtpgis/ EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  7. Next Set of Tasks • Setting up a user-friendly web interface for the GDT street data • Utilize ArcIMS 9 data delivery extension • This web interface will allow EPA users to display, query, and download the GDT data via a web browser. • This task will be completed by the end of this month. • Working on the process to load the GDT street data into the EPA Internet database server. • This task will be completed in the next 2 months • Building a SOAP/WSDL compatible web service for the GDT street data • This web service will make GDT street data available to other non-ESRI SOAP capable web applications. • This web service can be registered with UDDI services from EPA or other sources • This task will be completed in the next 3 months EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004

  8. Comments and Questions ?? • Special thanks to OEI/OIC for their support. • More information is available at the RTP GIS Portal: • http://intranet.epa.gov/rtpgis • Contact Information: • Tim Richards • GIS Service Manager • EPA OEI/OTOP/NTSD • Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 27709 • Phone: 919-541-5307 • Email: richards.tim@epa.gov EPA GIS Workgroup Meeting - 2004
