  2. Login on IACRA Home Page The Applicant Menu appears in green on the IACRA Home page. The applicant clicks Start or Retrieve App to begin.

  5. Certification / Application Module Step 2 is where the applicant selects the type of certificate they want – also known as the Certificate Sought Data. In this case, the applicant selects Private Pilot. IACRA populates the rest of the drop-down menus with only those options that pertain to a Private Pilot. This is done for ease-of-use and in order to reduce application errors by automatically enforcing specific business rules for each certificate. Next, the applicant selects the Click here to enter the Completion of Required Test Information link.

  6. Certification / Application Module When the Completion of Required Test screen appears, the applicant must select the Click here to select First Aircraft to be used link to select the aircraft type.

  7. Certification / Application Module The Make Model Series popup search screen appears. The applicant can select the type of aircraft from a list or enter search criteria to aid in locating the aircraft information. Once a selection is made, the applicant selects OK to enter the information into the Completion of Test Required screen.

  8. Certification / Application Module Once the First Aircraft to be used has been selected, the applicant then enters the Total Timein theFirst Aircraft and the PIC Time in the First Aircraft in the corresponding fields. If any other information is required in this window, the applicant enters it and selects OK.

  9. Certification / Application Module Next, the applicant selects the Click here to Select the Category/Class Ratings link.

  10. Certification / Application Module The Category/Class Ratings screen appears. The applicant selects the desired rating from the list. Once a selection is made, the applicant selects OK to enter this information into IACRA.

  11. Certification / Application Module The applicant then clicks on the Select the Type Ratings link to select the any necessary type ratings for the aircraft.

  12. Certification / Application Module The Aircraft Type Ratings popup search screen appears. The applicant can select aircraft type ratings from the list or enter search criteria to aid in locating the aircraft type information. Once a selection is made, the applicant selects OK to enter the information into the Completion of Test Required screen.

  13. Certification / Application Module Once the applicant has finished entering Certificate Sought Data, the summary of their choices appears and they are ready to proceed to Step 3.

  14. Certification / Application Module Step 3 queries the applicant on any pre-existing Certificate Held Data. In this case, the applicant has had a certificate before. Now, he must select the type of certificate. He selects the Click here if you hold a US Unrestricted License link.

  15. Certification / Application Module After entering the Certificate Number and Date of Issuance for his Unrestricted License, the applicant can, if needed, enter the class/type ratings for the aircraft associated with that license by selecting the appropriate links.

  17. Certification / Application Module When he has finished entering the Certificate Held Data, a summary of what the applicant has entered appears on the screen. The applicant is now ready to proceed to Step 4.

  18. Certification / Application Module Step 4 is where the applicant enters Supplementary Data such as information on their Medical Certificate. Here, we see that the applicant, Matt Good already holds a Medical Certificate and has entered the information regarding it.

  19. Certification / Application Module The second half of Step 4 is where the applicant enters Supplementary Data such as information on drug or narcotic violations, past test failures, etc. Once this information has been entered, the applicant is ready to proceed to Step 5.

  20. Certification / Application Module Step 5 is the step that collects information on an applicant’s Aeronautical Experience. The first two questions, as shown in the screen above, are asked first. In our applicant’s case, the answer to both questions is No. The second half of the screen displays the Aeronautical Experience Grid.

  21. Certification / Application Module Designed much like the Record of Pilot Time grid on the actual 8710 form, the applicant simply enters the corresponding hours for the aircraft. The applicant is now ready to proceed to Step 6.

  22. Certification / Application Module Step 6 is the Summary Page which shows an overview of the data the applicant provided. When the applicant clicks the Submit Application button, the data is validated by IACRA and any errors must be fixed before proceeding.

  23. Certification / Application Module If all of the information is considered valid, then the application data is successfully submitted to the IACRA database. The applicant should record his Application ID (see above – in this case the Application ID is 4512) in case he has questions. Should questions arise, he can call AVR Support Central. If the applicant wants to see a preview of their filled out 8710 application, they can click Review Application. However, they will not be able to save this unofficial copy.

  24. Certification / Application Module The 8710 application as filled out by IACRA. Only part of page 1 shown due to space constraints.

  25. Transition The applicant now must contact his Recommending Instructor so that the RI can verify the applicant’s knowledge test information and digitally sign the application.
