  2. In Estonian national calendar it’s called: • Egg holidays • Spring holidays • Swing holidays

  3. How do Estonian people celebrate Easter? Do you eat any special food on that day? • Yes we do. Some people make a cheese cake. Mothers boil eggs and children dye or paint them. • That’s interesting. How do you dye them? • We wrap them in onion skin and boil them. They look very pretty. Some children prefer to paint them with special paints. • Do you also decorate your homes? • We usually put some willow catkins in a vase.

  4. Wet the skins for a minute or two then place a few skins in your palm. • Fold up from the sides the rest of the onion skins • Wrap the whole package with string or rubber bands.

  5. Eggs were dyed with onion skins or birch leaves

  6. Easter foods • Boiled eggs • Cheese cake • Egg butter • Veal • Pork • Meat jelly

Traditions • Sleepers were touched with willow branches in the morning – to make people hardworking and healthy. • Silver coin was put in the water and faces were washed with it, to give people good eyesight. • Children’s hair was cut – to make hair grow long. • Swinging was the tradition in the evening. • In olden times noisy jobs were banned – to avoid thunder in summer.
