  4. Forms & ConventionsIn what ways does my magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines? Front Cover: In my opinion I feel as though my magazine cover follows section of convention which allows my magazine to me acknowledged as a music magazine. Firstly my magazine has a masthead in bold and it capitals which is common in magazines. Secondary I chose grey for my background because it goes with the theme I chose which was black, white and red. The masthead is red and white which really stands out because of the grey background. The XXL Dr. Dre magazine inspired me to make my front cover in that way simply because of the way the XXL magazine used them same colours (black, white and red).

  5. Forms & Conventions Content page & DPS My content page is has an image that covers 100% of the page which again is quite common in many magazines, my content page is also has a grey image which really helps the red stand out to the reader. Another common factor is after each sub heading there is a little intro, this allows the reader to have a preview of what that page will be about. Double Page Spread My double page spread is a simply design with a image covering the whole of one side, something you see in many music magazines. And once again follows the theme with its red, white and black design.

  6. Presentational IssuesHow does your magazine represent particular social groups? • My magazine represents the urban hip hop scene. This group of people are usually stereotyped as being related to such themes as Sex, Drugs and Violence. Also this demographic is normally glared upon by the community and seen as the cause of most of the disturbance and crime within the area. My magazine drifts away from these themes and focuses on the raw music aspect of hip hop.So in my conclusion, I feel that my magazine does not represent any social groups, but some can be drawn by some of the language and content within my magazine which can then be linked to a social group.

  7. Target AudienceWho was the intended target audience for my magazine? My intended target audience are people between the ages of 16 – 29, mainly for people of an ethnic background and for those who live in the middle class part of London. Another intended target audience for my magazine are people who have an interest in hip hop and rap, and listen to any music channel that are familiar with hip hop fashion and culture. With my target audience in mind my front cover attracts my target audience through the features on my magazine, that would attract that kind of demographic.

  8. Addressing the readershipHow did I attract / address my target audience? To attract my target audience into buying my magazine I used a features that in my opinion would attract my target audience , this includes an Images, Sell lines, teaser, colour and language. I also used informal language attract the reader and make them feel more relaxed as they can relate to the language used. Also I made sure that my magazine front cover was clear and simple by not putting too much text on my front cover. By doing so it attract the reader because they may feel as though they need to read on. I added words such as ‘ Eye Candy’ which would attract the male side of my target audience.

  9. InstitutionsWhere would my magazine be distributed? For my magazine I feel as though there is a variety of institutions that could distribute my magazine. Because my magazine has a large target audience it would only be suitable to have my magazine distributed in big institutions and places hat my target market would probably visit. One large institution that my magazine could be distributed from is WHSmith. WHSmith sell large amount of book, magazine and stationary in there store, with that information in mind I feel as though it would be a good idea to distribute my magazines from that store. Simply because a lot of my target audience tend to shop there to purchase magazines. Another store that could distribute my magazine could be JDSports. JDSports is a large clothes store, that sells a lot of clothes to the lower age my target audience. I chose JD because my magazine is a hip hop magazine and JD sell a lot of hip hop material it. And finally Tesco, Tesco is the leading supermarket which gets over 2500 customer each day. With them figures having my magazine sold here is a good idea because a large number of my target audience visit this store.

  10. Technical/Construction issues During the production of my front cover, content page and double page spread I used a range of technology to construct them. After taking a few photos on my 14megapixel Samsung PL201 camera I then edited my photos on to Adobe Photoshop CS3. from there I created my front cover, content page and my double page spread. Photoshop has plenty of editing tools, Photoshop also allows you to form shapes and different effect. With that in mind I used some of the tools to turn my photos I took into my final magazine design.
