  2. Definition • ad·ver·si·ty (Latin adversitas from ‘advertere’- turn towards) • difficulties • misfortune • Success- (Latin origin success from ‘succedere’ - come close after) • Accomplishment of an aim or purpose • Attainment of fame, wealth, or social status

  3. Adversities - Natural Phenomena • Only difference is in its IMPACT and QUANTUM. • It is universal . • Not only humans but every living creature will have to face adversity in their lifetime. Recent flooding in Australia

  5. Adversities - Manmade • Lack of support- financial and motivational. • EGO • GREED • DECEPTION • Deliberate ones like Satyam Fraud, Subprime crisis, Insider trading etc. • One person’s greed has bought adversity to many. • Not only individuals but families were affected.

Types Of Adversity • Personal - From close family and friends or beyond one’s control due to various reasons. • Professional - Lack of self confidence or peer pressures. • Societal - Many are affected and needs collective effort . • National - Scams, Local problems etc. • Global - Recession, Oil crisis, Wars, Revolutions like in Egypt , Libya, Tunisia etc.

  7. How To Overcome Adversity • Have the Right Perspective towards adversity. • Do not get dejected when faced with adversity. • Have a Positive attitude. • Never give up. • Have a strong belief that “This too will pass”. • Visualize adversity as a passing phase. • Look for Alternatives.

Always Be Positive • Every problem has a solution. • Have an in-depth view of situation and its pros & cons. • Don’t leave the battle ground in the middle. • Don’t listen to discouraging people. • Don’t over estimate the adversity. • Success achieved easily can be enjoyed for that moment but when achieved through struggle will have a lasting impression. • Impossible things only take a little longer to achieve.
