  1. GOD THE SONThe Dual Nature of Christ Christianity 101 – Lesson 6 Immanuel Lutheran Church Clayton Township, Neenah, Wisconsin

  2. Last Week’s Memory Treasure God made Him who had no sin… 2 Corinthians 5:21

  3. Last Week’s Memory Treasure God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

  4. First Article of the Apostles’ Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. What does this mean? I believe that God created me and all that exists, and that He gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves my by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, property and home, spouse and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all I need to keep my body and life...

  5. First Article of the Apostles’ Creed God also preserves me by defending me against all danger, guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does only because He is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

  6. Opening Discussion I had a discussion with my friend, who said that Christ in His human nature was incapable of sin or of succumbing to temptation. I thought He was fully susceptible to the temptation to sin—but did not. What does the Word say about this?

  15. What Kind of Savior Do We Need? 3. Therefore, the Savior we needed had to be a MAN in order to… live obediently under the Law in our place and to die in our place

  16. What Kind of Savior Do We Need? No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him—the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough. Psalm 49:7,8

  17. What Kind of Savior Do We Need? No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him—the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough. Psalm 49:7,8

  18. What Kind of Savior Do We Need? 4. But He also had to be GOD for His perfect life and sacrificial death… to count for everyone

  38. Who Is Jesus Christ? Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:14-18

  43. Agree or Disagree? • The Son of God has always been in existence, even before Creation. • Jesus Christ was never tempted to sin against God the Father. • While on earth Jesus Christ was God masquerading as man. • All Christians believe that Jesus is both true God and true man.

  44. Discussion Question #1 Why is it so important that Jesus is “one with the Father from all eternity”?

  45. Discussion Question #2 What do we mean by saying that Jesus took a “complete” human nature?

  46. Discussion Question #3 How could Jesus have been born a true human being and yet have been sinless?

  47. Memory Treasure In Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. Colossians 2:9

  48. Second Article of the Apostles’ CreedFirst Half I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. What does this mean? I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

  49. Closing Prayer Almighty God, in mercy You sent Your one and only Son to take upon Himself our human nature. By His gracious coming deliver us from the corruption of our sin and transform us into the likeness of His glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
