INTRODUCTION • All of Federal Universities are an autarchy and a public institution linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC); • Its administration is commanded by the superior councils: • University Council (ConselhoUniversitário, CONSUNI); • Teaching, Research and Extension Council (Conselho de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão – CEPE) • Curators Council

  3. UNIVERSITY COUNCIL • Highest decisional authority, presided by the Notable Rector; • Basically, the attributions of CONSUNI are to formulate, supervise and assess the Institutional policy to the institution´s human, financial resource, infra-structure and management matters.

  4. CURATORS COUNCIL • Responsible for the financial books and budgetary matters, also under rectorship rule; • The acts of curators council are under supervision of the Federal Court of Accounts of Brazil (TCU) and Brazilian Office of the Comptroller General (CGU).

  5. TEACHING, RESEARCH AND EXTENSION COUNCIL • CEPE is an academic council for Teaching (undergraduate, graduate, distance learning courses), Research and Extension ; • Its composed by a technical body that supervises and decides about Teaching, Research and Extension matter. • Presided by the Notable Rector

RECTOR AND VICE-RECTOR • The Notable Rector is nominated and chosen by the Ministry of Education (MEC) from a three-candidate list formed by a general election every four years; • In general, the MEC respects the electoral decision choosing the most voted candidate. • The institution is also directed by a vice-rector and other pro-rectors.

  7. PRO-RECTORIES • The academic and administrative pro-rectories: • Pro-Rectory of Undergraduate Studies (PROGRAD) • Pro-Rectory of Research and Post-Graduates Studies (PRPPG) • Pro-Rectory of Extension (PROEX) • Pro-Rectory of Planning and Institutional Development • Pro-Rectory of Human Resources (ProGEPE) • Pro-Rectory of Management and Governance (PROAD)

  8. INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT FOUNDATION • Is a private non-profit organization, that among its many activities, preside over the administrative and financial management of research projects obtained from government financial agencies (CNPq, CAPES and FINEP), from private research fund (Petrobras, Vale), as well as extension projects, technological services • CNPQ – National Council for Scientific and Technologic Development • CAPES – National Coordination of High Education Formation Programs. • FINEP – Science and Technology Supporting Fund.
