  1. Welcome Lesson 4 – Part 1 Computer Aided Manufacturing Using Mastercam

  2. Mastercam - Agenda • Review of last session • Mill Lesson 4 process • Rectangles and Polygons • Fillets

  3. Homework from last session Assignment #2 • Due date: At the start of Session #?? • Mill Lesson 3 & 4 Exercises • Please print on the diskette label: • Assignment Disk • Your full name • Print on the label of the diskette: “Assignment Disk” • Only Assignment files on the disk please, file names to be: • Mill-Lesson-3-Ex1.MCX and Mill-Lesson-4-Ex1.MCX

  4. Homework from last session • Review Mill Lesson 4 on the CD • Work on Assignment 2

  5. Questions ???

  6. Mill Lesson 4 The Process • TASK 1: Setting the environment • TASK 2: Create a rectangle 3” x 3” – the center is at X0 Y0 • TASK 3: Create the inside entities • TASK 4: Create the four .125” fillet radii • TASK 5: Save the drawing • TASK 6: Define the rough stock using stock setup • TASK 7: Drill the 4 x .125” diameter holes • TASK 8: Machine the contour • TASK 9: Backplot the toolpath • TASK 10: Modify the contour toolpath to add roughing cuts and a finish pass • TASK 11: Verify the toolpath • TASK 12: Save the updated MCX file • TASK 13: Post and create the CNC code file

  7. Demonstration of Mastercam? • Verify Lesson 4

  8. Rectangle • To draw a rectangle, click to set the base point that anchors the rectangle, drag the rectangle outward, then click to set the second corner. • You can also enter X, Y, and Z positions in the AutoCursor ribbon bar to position the two points on the rectangle.

  9. Rectangle • The rectangle can be drawn outward from a center point, and can be drawn as a surface. • Width and height are lockable so that you can create multiple rectangles using set dimensions. • The rectangle remains a live entity until you click the Apply button or start another rectangle.

  10. Rectangle • Edit Point 1 & 2 • While the rectangle is still a live entity, choose this button or press [1 or 2] to change the first and second corner position of the rectangle.

  11. Rectangle • Width & Height • To create a rectangle with a specific width or height dimension, choose these buttons and enter a value in the field. • Pressing the button again locks the field so that the width dimension will be applied to subsequent rectangles.

  12. Rectangle • Anchor to center • Sets the base point of the rectangle to the center point, and draws the rectangle outward from the center. • Create surface • Create a surface instead of wireframe geometry.

  13. Rectangular Shapes • Click the shape you want the rectangle to take:  rectangle, obround, single D, or double D.

  14. Polygons • Use this dialog box to create a multi-sided polygon as wireframe geometry or a surface.

  15. Polygons: Field Definitions Contract & Expand

  16. Polygons • The Corner and Flat options determine whether Mastercam measures for the radius from the base point to a corner, or to the midpoint of a side. Set to Flat

  17. Polygons • The Corner and Flat options determine whether Mastercam measures for the radius from the base point to a corner, or to the midpoint of a side. Set to Corner

  18. Fillet • The Fillet menu gives you options for filleting curves. When you fillet curves, you insert an arc of a defined radius tangent to the curves

  19. Fillet • The Fillet menu gives you options for filleting curves. When you fillet curves, you insert an arc of a defined radius tangent to the curves • Use this ribbon bar to apply fillets to existing entities. Before selecting the entities to which you will apply the fillet, choose the fillet style (normal, inverse, circle, clearance) and enter the necessary radius value. • You also have the choice to trim the selected lines to the fillet. Trimming is set as the default so if you do not want the entities trimmed, you will have to select the No Trim button.

  20. FilletStyle Field • Sets the fillet style to be created. The following styles are available from the drop down list: • Normal = creates normal fillets on the corners of a contour, resulting in rounded corners. • Inverse = creates inverted arcs on the corners of a contour. • Circle = creates full circles in each of the corners of a contour. • Clearance = creates fillets on inside corners of a contour so that the tool will reach completely into the corner to remove material.
