  1. Washington Naval Conference In the 1920’s the worlds biggest powers came together for a conference that was held in Washington. The reason for the conference was to figure out how to relieve tensions in Asia. In world war 1 Leaders around the globe sought out to prevent another war from breaking out; however, countries had arms races which heightened tensions. Senator Borah made an effort that the United states engage its competitors ( Japan and Britain) in the arms race in negotiation for disarmament.

  2. Five Power Treaty At the Naval conference the five power treaty was formed and signed by the United States, Britain, Japan, France, and Italy. The treaty kept the countries to maintain a set ratio of warships. The United states got 500,000 tons, Japan 300,000 tons and France and Italy 175,000 tons. The United states and Britain wanted a higher tonnage because of their two big oceans, but was not allowed. The five countries had to limit their Navies and reduce reproduction of warships. The United States felt that they would be in danger.

  3. Nine Power Treaty The Final Treaty made at the Conference was the Nine power treaty Which involved U.S, Britain, Japan, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and China. The treaty recognized Japanese dominance in Manchuria, but was made equal to do business with other countries. The nine power Treaty was meant to reassure china that its territory would not be compromised by Japanese expansion
