  2. CARNIVALis a publiccelebrationthattakes place inmediatelybeforethe Christian Lent. It can befromJanuarytoMarch, itdependsoneachyear.

  3. Thiscelebration has gotsomeelements: costumes, parades and streetparties. There are lots of similar parties in theworld.

  4. The largest carnival celebration in the world is in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

  5. But there are more internationally famous carnivals: Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), Cadiz (Spain), Venice (Italy), Barranquilla (Colombia)…

  6. The longer is in Montevideo (Uruguay): it lasts the entire month of February !

  7. There are manytypes of carnivals, butnowwe are goingtoknow more about“TheCarnival of theAnimals” (Le Carnaval des animaux). Followingthemusic of Camille Saint-Saënswe can listen tothelions, chickens, turtles, kangaroos, donkeys and some more animals in a triumphalmarch.

  8. It´s a fantasy made up of 14 small movements. The work is curious because it has got an unusual instrumentation: two pianos, two violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, a flute, a clarinet, an accordion and a xylophone. With these instruments the composer describes all the animals.
