  4. Process (I) • Candidates/ chairs/ college review committees submit dossiers to College A&P committee • College level committee reviews dossier, makes a recommendation to the Dean • For Assistant Professor, step changes, initial (temp.) appointments, etc. decisions remain in the college • Faculty has the right to appeal any adverse decision

Process (II) • For Associate Professor and above: • Dean forwards recommendation of college committee, together with his/her recommendation to AS University A&P committee • College A&P Committee Chair (or another representative from the committee) presents Faculty dossier and represents College committee’s decision • AS University A&P committee reviews dossier and makes a recommendation to the Provost • Faculty has the right to appeal any adverse decision

  6. Process (III) • Provost makes recommendation and submits dossier to President and Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee (for Full and Emeritus appointments only)

  7. Process Summary • The process utilizes both the resources and expertise of the Colleges’ individual faculty as well as the Faculty as a whole to evaluate dossiers with regard to both the criteria of each college and the standards of the University • A transparent system of checks and balances is maintained by an alternation of peer and administrative levels of review • Faculty will receive notification of each decision and retains the right to appeal adverse decisions at each level of review, both peer and administrative

Academic Senate University A&P Committee • An official committee of the Academic Senate • As with all official AS committees, according to AS Constitution, ASLC has the right and authority to choose committee members • Provost will retain right of concurrence in the case of potential conflicts of interest, however the final authority and responsibility for selection and/or rejection of committee members will continue to rest with the ASLC

  9. A&P Committee Composition • Nine total voting members, with at least 1 member from each college • All members of the committee must be voting members of the Academic Senate • At least four members must be full Professors • Candidates should have more than two years of service at CDU

  10. Membership Criteria Committee Members will be selected by the ASLC based on: • Desire to serve • Seniority • Enthusiasm and industry • Scholarly expertise

  11. AS University A&P Nominations • Begin today, 11/9 and close 11/16 at 3pm. • Submit nominations, including self-nominations to Mike Scott academicsenate@cdrewu.edu • ASLC will choose members based on the criteria listed above

  12. Academic Senate Student Affairs Committee • Charge: To ensure the academic development, availability of resources, and overall well-being of the students and to facilitate their successful and timely progress toward graduation. • Membership: 1 faculty member from each college/school; 1 student from each college/school; 2 staff members working closely with students

  13. Grievance Process Review • Leaders of the existing Grievance committees (COSH, COM, and AS) met on 10/29 and 11/9 • Discussed aligning the grievance policies and procedures to make it easier for faculty to understand/ use the grievance process when necessary • Developing a flow chart to help faculty navigate the process and help committees stick to a reasonable timeline • Each committee is currently revising/ updating their own policies and procedures
