Overview • Instructional Technology used in Social Studies can: • Promote meaningful social studies • Promote social studies that is integrative • Promote value based social studies instruction • Plan for challenging social studies instruction • Design learning activities that actively engage students

  3. Virtual field trips • Help students learn about other cultures

  4. Muzzy Lane • Student “Live through” history with Muzzy Lane’s simulated immersion experience • Students play the role of decision maker in historical situations • Helps develop better problem solving skills

  5. Webquests • Students do internet research to learn that current issues have historical roots in past events and debates.

  6. Geospatial Technology • Geospatial technologies such as Google Earth allow for real-world analysis • Students study content such as history, economics and geography

  7. Simulation Games • Students can learn economic principles with stock market simulation games • Complexities of the stock market become easier to understand • Students play the role of stockbroker • Students invest their own money

  8. Summary These Instructional technologies can promote: • A challenging learning environment • Real World experience • Student directed learning • Hi LoTi levels • Authentic learning • Collaboration
