  3. 4. Who is Anthony Wayne? • Anthony Wayne was a warrior, he was in several battles and wars over his life including the Battle For Ohio, Little Turtle's War, and The Battle for the Fallen Timbers • Wayne’s nickname was “Mad” because the people in his troop thought that he was going mad because he was acting all sorts of crazy.

  8. Cause and Affect Cause Effect • The U.S expand the Western Confederacy and United States' control of the Northwest Territory. The people in the colonies started the attack and triumphed in taking land from the Native Americans. • Northwest Indian War (1785–1795) in Indiana and Ohio, also known as Little Turtle's war. Americans suffered 2 humiliating defeats by the Native Indians General Anthony St. Clair’s American troops in 1791 by the Native American federation under Chief Little Turtle.

  9. Why was This Battle Named Battle of the Fallen Timbers? • When the U.S was right in front of the Indians the Indians found the only spot they could to protect themselves, which was behind a few trees that had fallen over into a tangled shield. Also because they soldiers had to fight against the trees to get to the Indians which made it al lot harder.

  10. What Happened After This Battle? • The defeat of the Indians led to the signing of the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, which gave up much of present-day Ohio to the United States. Before withdrawing from the area Wayne began the construction of a line of forts along the Maumee, from present day Toledo to its origins in present day Indiana. After Wayne had returned to his home in western Pennsylvania the last of these forts was named Fort Wayne in his honor. Its location is the site of the present day city. Behind this line of forts European ancestry Americans settled the Ohio country paving the way for the creation of Ohio state in 1803. One veteran of Fallen Timbers who did not sign the Greenville treaty was a young Shawnee war leader named Tecumseh, who would renew Indian resistance in the years ahead.
