  1. Year 10 Biz Langs studies for the… CBLC

  2. What is the CBLC? • It is a Certificate in Business Language Competence. Our exam board is OCR. • It is available at various levels – each level represents skills, vocabulary and knowledge required within a business context • It is a qualification that starts at pre-GCSE level (Entry Level) and goes right up to University first degree standard (Level 4) • It is available in Spanish, French and Italian at all levels • OCR also offers studies in Russian or Japanese at Entry Level The World in your hands!

  3. The CBLC was developed to meet the needs of business! • It is a valid and sought-after qualification in the world of business. In fact, British Airways were one of the first businesses to use the CBLC to accredit their staff’s language skills • EMPLOYERS LOVE IT! • More and more schools are seeing the value of giving their students the opportunity to gain this qualification.

  4. CBLC Level 1 CBLC Level 2 CBLC Level 3 Levels 4 and 5 are equivalent to Higher Level examinations at university degree level! = NVQ Level 1 = NVQ Level 2 = NVQ Level 3 and AS/A2 What’s in worth, then?! (Points DO mean prizes! Kind of..!) From this year on, Level 2 and level 3 candidates will be able to convert their CBLC points into GCSE and A Level UCAS points, respectively! Now, that’ll look good on your Uni application, won’t it?! How much more useful could this course be?!

  5. What’s good about it? Well, what else? ? flexibility • The of the course is important! • We decide when to invite in the examiner! • We do the level that most suits our individual needs ? • In many schools it is used to complement language learning at GCSE and to • s-t-r-e-t-c-h gifted and talented students

  6. In the Entry Level you will learn how to: • Deal with visitors to a company • Book hotel accommodation • Deal with directions and signs • Make arrangements to travel on business • With a focus on oral competence (getting your speaking skills up to scratch!)

  7. What else do you get out of it! • You get a separate certificate for each element! • You can only pass or fail • AND! • The examiner is not the enemy! • He/she is your ‘friend’! • If you attempt each task (assessment objective) and you have prepared well  you are likely to be successful. • If not, it is possible to re-book and do it again another time.

  8. Moving on… • The upper levels focus more on developing your abilities in: • Listening • Reading • Making telephone calls and presentations • Formal conversation • Writing in the target language
