Outline: Vocabulary: energetic – person is active and full of life. behaviors – ways that animals or human beings act. disappearance– happens when something or someone can no longer be seen or found. flurry–many; things happening all at once. migrate– travel to another place to escape cold air. observation– you notice or carefully look at something. theory – an idea or opinion that has not been proven to be true. transformed - changed how it looked. • Morning Work: • Complete Monday’s work in Daily Comprehension Book. • Make sure your spelling words are written in your agenda. c. Write words and definitions on note cards. d. Reading Skills and Concepts of the Week Comprehension Strategy: Reread [RF. 5.4c] • If you encounter a section of text that is difficult or unclear, they should stop and reread that section. • You may need to reread a section more than once or go back and reread an earlier text. Comprehension Skill: Sequence [RI.5.5] • Biographies usually describe the events of a person’s life in sequence, or order. • Signal words include: first, then, later, and finally, as well as specific times and dates. Genre: Biography[RL.4.7] • A biography is a type of informational text. It tells the true story of a real person’s life. • Events in the person’s life are described in the third person, using the pronouns he or she. Vocabulary Strategy: Greek and Latin Suffixes[L.5.4b] • A suffix is added to the end of a word to change its meaning. • Many suffixes originally come from Greek and Latin.

Approximately how many months passed between the events on page 144 up unto the events on page 145? Page 147 [Stop and Check Question]– How did John James know that his friends had returned? Pages 147- 148 What did John discover about the baby birds he had during the previous spring?

Language Arts Skills and Concepts of the Week Grammar: More Plural Nouns[L.3.1b] • To form the plural of some nouns ending in f or fe, change the f to v and add –es: loaf ; loaves • To form the plural of nouns ending in the vowel o, add –s: rodeo; rodeos • To form the plural of nouns ending in a consonant followed by o, add –s or –es: echo; echoes • Some nouns, like crew, council, and class, name a group. A collective noun can be considered singular or plural.

Writing Skills and Concepts of the Week Writing: Ideas • Good writers choose details that support and explain the main idea of their text. • Good writers support their ideas with facts, examples, definitions of unfamiliar words and quotations. * Let’s look at pages 130– 131. {We do!} * Think of a question you have about nature. Give examples of ways scientist can investigate this question.
