  3. Graduation Requirements • What is a senior? • A student that needs no more that 8 courses to graduate. Students needing more than 8 courses will be classified as a juniors during the fall and could be classified as a senior in January IF all necessary courses are scheduled. This includes virtual courses. • Senior IGP’s: • Senior IGP’s will begin after Labor day! • Guidance will be using “youcanbookme.com” to schedule IGP’s for the 19/20 school year. • Be sure your email address is correct in PS. • IGP meeting dates not requested will be assigned.

  4. Graduation Requirements • During your IGP be sure to check the following: • All credits earned are reflected • All personal information is correct **Be sure your name is spelled correctly. THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE SPELLED ON YOUR DIPLOMA

Graduation Requirements • 4 ENGLISH ___ ___ ___ ___ • 4 MATH ___ ___ ___ ___ • 3 SCIENCE ___ ___ ___ • 3 SOCIAL STUDIES : • Other SS ELECTIVE ____ • US History ____ • GOVT/ECON ____ • 1 PE/ROTC ____ • 1 COMPUTER SCIENCE ____ • 1 FOREIGN LANGUAGE/OR OCCUPATIONAL ELECTIVE /CTE ___ • 7 ELECTIVES ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ • 24 Carnegie Units are required for a South Carolina Diploma

Graduation Requirements • What is an Occupational Elective OR CTE Course? • Examples: Accounting, Web Page I or II, Graphic Communications, Welding, Sports Medicine, Health Science, Media Tech, Intro to Engineering, Business Finance, Banking Services, Intro to Teaching, Early Childhood Education, Exploring Computer Science… Ask your counselor if in doubt.

  7. Advance Studies Options • Students that have fulfilled their graduation requirements are encouraged to look into BCSD Advanced Studies Options: • Dual Credit • B4 Program • Advanced Placement

Advance Studies Options • Dual Credit: • BCSD Students that have already completed through their 3rd level of English can apply to take Dual Credit English through TTC. • GCH offers English 101 and 102 on site!! • Students must have: • A passing Accuplacer score • Students can take this up to 3 times in 1 year • SAT Critical Reading of 580 and Math of 600 • ACT English of 19 and Math of 22 • Next Gen ACCUPLACER: 237 Reading and Writing and 255 QAS

  9. Advance Studies Options • B4 Program: • Partnership with TTC that allows students to complete 4 college courses offsite during their Spring semester. • Allows students to • Stay enrolled in school and access activities • Have a flexible schedule • Begin college at a low cost

Advance Studies Options • B4 Entry Requirements: • Students must pass the Accuplacer • Students may also qualify via: • SAT scores 530 Critical Reading and 600 Math • ACT scores 19 English and 22 Math • Cost • 47% tuition reduction for everyone (TTC and Lottery Assistance) • Free tuition for free and reduced lunch students. • Textbooks per course average about $120. BCSD covers the cost of texts for free and reduced lunch students.

  11. Advance Studies Options • Advanced Placement: • Students that do not have transportation can take advantage of GCH’s large selection of AP courses. • GCH offers over 20 AP courses on campus that students can take for college credit.

  12. College Preparation • Students that wish to attend a 4 year college will have to complete additional graduation requirements: • Additional course work • Recommendation Letters • College Applications • SAT / ACT

  13. College Preparation • 4 Year College Course Work Requirements: • 2 or 3 Years of the SAME foreign language • 3 or 4 Years of a LAB science • 1 Fine Art credit • Algebra I, II, & Geometry • Some schools require above Algebra II • Computer Programing

College Preparation • Recommendation Letters: • Most 4 year schools require students to have 2 recommendation letters. • Students need to request these letters 1.5 to 2 weeks before they actually need them. • You will need to submit a resume or list of activities with your letter request in order to get the best letter possible.

College Preparation • Transcripts: • GCH uses Parchment.com for students to request transcripts. • Students can logon and create an account. • Students should request a destination for the transcript and the counselor will then send it to where it needs to go. • The first transcript is free. Additional transcripts are $3.00 each. `

  16. College Preparation • Testing: • All students looking to attend a competitive 4 year college should have taken the SAT and ACT by the end of their junior year in high school. • Be sure to check the requirements for the school you wish to attend. • Test scores are a factor considered by colleges but they are not the only thing colleges look at.

  17. Military Preparation • ASVAB • Students planning to enter the armed forces should plan to take the ASVAB • Students are allowed to take the ASVAB 3 times in one calendar year and then they will have a waiting period • Students need to see their counselors about test prep with a recruiter if they are interested in entering the military.
