  2. History • In Hindu legend the god Shiva created the world by destroying his monster enemies • He destroyed them with his destruction dance • Bharatanatyam is the oldest dance in the world.

  4. Beliefs • Hindus believed dance was given to them by the gods • They believe when Shiva destroyed the monsters and made the world the gods and goddesses danced and didn’t stop

More Dance Facts • Mudras are hand gestures in which are very important in dances they often stand for plants, animals, and feelings. • All dances are formed around rasas, or emotions, hasya which means happiness, krodha which means anger, bhaya which means fear, shoka, viran , karund, and shanta which mean sorrow, courage, compassion, and serenity

  8. Religion • Some Hindu cultures only dance for there gods for food water and life. • Hindu gods help them in war to survive and live on in life.

  9. Dances today • Today Indians learn the rules of dance by Bharata whom lived 1,500 years ago • Today Indians still worship dance today and is still an important part of their life.
