Porting process of number portability1

Porting Process of number portability

  • Subscriber Sends the request for Porting to 1900 in the format

    PORT<space>10 digit mobile Number

(All operators will route 1900 to their respective Number Portability Gateways(NPG))

  • The NPG will Generate a Unique Porting Code (UPC) 8 Character Code with first character indicating Donor Operator and Second Character the LSA eg AX12E531- Airtel Karnataka

  • The Subscriber approaches Recipient Operator(RNO) fills the CAF which now has the UPC Filed

  • The RNO through CCN raises the Porting request after allotting a SIM to the Subscriber (SIM Number has to be filled in while raising the request)

  • The request reaches MCHA(MNP Clearing House Administrator) through NPG

(The RNO has the access to GUI of NPG and MCHA for tracking the request)

Porting Process of number portability

  • MCHA sends a request to donor Operator (DNO) for approval of the NP request

  • DNO approves the Porting (if the subcriber was active in the DNO for at least 90 days, No Pending invoice, and no legal/vigilance cases) , after intimating Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) if the number is under Lawful Interception(LI) . (Must Have a nodal Officer for this)

  • The MCHA schedules the porting Process and intimates both DNO and RNO of the date and time of porting. The billing system carries out the requests automatically.

  • After Porting the Change of LRN (Location Routing Number) is broadcasted by the MCHA through NPG to all the L-NPDB. (Local Number Portability Databases)
