  4. When do we use capital letters? Capital letters are used for: • The first letter of the first word of a sentence. • A proper noun. • The first spoken word in direct speech. • The word ‘I’ when used on its own. • Acronyms and initials My teacher is very intelligent. I was tired, so I went to bed. Derrick Trotter bought a Rolls Royce after he won the lottery. The Dr Who series was shot in Wales for the BBC. • Sir Richard Branson owns Virgin Media. Diviali begins on Thursday.

Initials and Acronyms An acronym is a word formed from the initials or other parts of several words such BBC (British Broadcasting Company), AA - Automobile Association SITCOM: Single Income Two Children Oppressive Mortgage BA – British Airway’s ATM – Automated Teller Machine WYSIWYG this stands for What You See Is What You Get, and it is actually pronounced when spoken ‘WHIZZYWIG’ PIN - Personal Identification Number

  8. Example of an informal letter Dear Tom and Katie We are on holiday in London and thought we would write to you. We are having a great time. We are staying with David and Samantha Cameron and they are showing us around the city. Yesterday we went to the Tower of London, which was very interesting. Afterwards we took a boat trip on the River Thames, but it was very windy and we had to return after a short while.   9. Mistakes to avoid ...... Capitals are used for names of people, places, dates, brand names, postcodes and titles: Mr David Cameron, London, August, Pepsi, The Bible, Dr Who. SW11 All sentences begin with a capital letter and end with either a full stop. Think about them when you write, and check your work to make sure they’re all there. Miss Marks The Examiner Assessment criteria: Use punctuation correctly, eg capital letters , question, exclamation marks and full stops. Understand that these are the complete family of sentence boundary markers used in continuous text written in complete sentences. Ws/3.4

Add images and trailer. 50 points.

  11. PeerAssessment Look back through the writing. Write a list of all the things you thought your partner did really well. Include things linked to the objectives, but also include things that were not. Write a list of everything s/he did right. Give examples.
