  5. Sensors Overview 1/3 • In the mSense ® platform we use the definition “sensor ” in order to describe everything that can be used as to provide input of exogenous phenomena to our system. • There are hardware sensors. These are the well known devices that can be used in order to read temperature, humidity, electricity consumption, human presence, light intensity etc. • There are software sensors. These are computer programs that can be used in order to read statuses and readings from other computer systems. Such systems can be: • email sensors (activated according to the email that are received), • SMS sensors (activated according to the SMS that are received), • Stock exchange sensors (activated according to the price of some stocks) etc mSense PLATFORM

  6. Sensors Overview 2/3 Some Hardware sensors : mSense PLATFORM Light sensor Magnetic sensor Humidity sensor Switch Temperature sensor Potentiometer Weight sensor Proximity sensor

  8. Actuators Overview 1/3 • In the mSense ® platform we use the definition “actuator” in order to describe everything that can give an output and thus provide an action. • There are hardware actuators. These are the well known devices that can put something into action. Actuators can switch on a light, activate an alarm, set up the heat, activate a pump for watering a garden etc. • There are software actuators. These are computer programs that can be used in order to create actions to other computer systems. Such systems can be: • Email actuators (send an email), • SMS actuators(send a SMS), • Other web actuators (call other systems through the web) • Make sound announcements etc mSense PLATFORM

  9. Actuators Overview 2/3 Some Hardware actuators : mSense PLATFORM Light beacon (light actuator) Sound speaker (sound actuator) Air condition (climate actuator)

Actuators Overview 3/3 Some Software actuators : mSense PLATFORM Google plus system interconnection Twitter system interconnection mSense ® platform server RSS feeds system interconnection Facebook system interconnection You Tube system interconnection Email Server system interconnection SMS and MMS system interconnection

  11. Msense ® PLATFORM OVERVIEW 1/4 • The msense ® platform provides an intuitive and friendly way to control systems. • The platform interconnects sensors and actuators from a central point. • The logic of the system stands in the server and not in the client so our platform is vendor and architecture independent • Platform applies all the State of-the-art design • Platform provides multi-language support • Device management from a central point • Prerecorded scenarios automatically configures the systems so the systems can be treated as plug and play. • Platform provides very flexible solutions from simple to very large and complex interconnected systems. mSense PLATFORM

  12. Msense ® PLATFORM OVERVIEW 2/4 Steps to use the platform User gets the hardware modules (sensors and actuators) if he needs them in his scenario else he can use the software modules. User powers up the hardware and connects it to the internet. User sees the hardware modules from the internet and he administers them. Administration can be from simple changing the name of a device or the unit of the measurement (e.g. Celsius to Fahrenheit degrees) to very complex settings. User can add software modules in the system. Users select among different predefined scenarios that auto interconnect sensors and actuators. Users can create their own scenario from a graphical interface. mSense PLATFORM

  13. Msense ® PLATFORM OVERVIEW 3/4 mSense PLATFORM Scenario Designer mSense ® platform Server 2. Submit to the mSense server 1. Design the scenario by interconnecting sensors and actuators 3. Server distributes the settings to the units. Users Units (hardware and software sensors and actuators)

  14. Msense ® PLATFORM OVERVIEW 4/4 mSense PLATFORM 3. Server runs a rule engine and takes decisions according to the measurements and data. 4. Server performs predefined actions at other software actuators. mSense ® platform Server 5. Server activates hardware actuators 1. Software sensors take measurements and post them to the server Other Systems 2. Hardware Sensors take measurements and post them to the server

  15. Msense ® PLATFORM value points • Innovative and modern design. • We carefully choose hardware vendors and software partners. • The mSense ® platform is optimized in order to emphasize • easy design and product usability. • Overall design is aesthetic. • Nice graphical representation of measurements • Powerful user reports • Precisely design that makes the product understandable. • Product is long lasting. • Quality is thorough down to the last detail. • Complexity of the system is hidden to the end user • Technical details (API) are given in order to extend the system • according to special needs. mSense PLATFORM

  25. MAIL TRACKING use case • A solution for senders and recipients to track their mail or parcel using a unique identifier (e.g. barcode or QR code), either located at a branch or carried by a vehicle. • Information for the status of an item via SMS or email, upon dispatching or arrival at branch • A mobile app to allow real time geographical and status traceability of mail mSense CASE STUDIES

  26. MAIL TRACKING use case script 1/3 • Each mail will have a barcode, which is scanned by the employees every time it reaches a branch or is dispatched in a vehicle • Two types of sensors: • GPS devices (mobile or embedded) used on the fleet in order to submit coordinates • Barcode scanners used by the employees to update the parcels’ status • The sensors invoke a web service and continuously insert their data in a NoSQL database (big data) • Post office holds information for offices, fleet, parcels and customers in a database mSense CASE STUDIES

  27. MAIL TRACKING use case script 2/3 • A filtering/aggregation service is responsible for inserting only the necessary data in our Data Warehouse, coupled with additional business logic regarding the status of each mail • A service is responsible for sending correlated data from the Data Warehouse DB to the BPM (rule & decision making engine), which triggers a workflow and generates the alerts for the registered customers accordingly • The subscribed users can be notified when their parcel changes status (location) and/or when the parcel has reached the final distribution office at which point they will be notified with an estimated time of delivery. mSense CASE STUDIES

  28. MAIL TRACKING use case script 3/3 • The users subscribe to the service, choosing their alerting preferences (SMS or email, sender and/or recipient alerting, on each location change or only on the final branch) • In our scenario, “Recipient 1” wishes to be alerted in every step of the delivery. “Recipient 2” will only be alerted when the delivery reaches the final step. mSense CASE STUDIES
